Not well known but Wal-Mart belongs to Bloomberg's group of Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

I didn't know Walmart ever took orders for ammo. I just make it a habbit to swing by sporting good on our weekly stop and look at the near empty ammo cabinet. On the rare occasion that they have Federal bulk .22's or reasonable target 9mm, I hunt down someone with a key!

There's another thread about this, Walmart has stopped placing new orders for ammo until they know what's going to happen. They're still selling what's in the stores and the warehouses.
Linky -> Ammo sales at Walmart on hold

If it bothers anyone then maybe they should email them and tell them you will put on hold shopping there until you know if they will support people's 2nd Amendment rights, I have and won't shop there too many other stores that sell Chinese made products. They tried being like Target once before and it didn't work. Then again not many large stores sell firearms or equiptment anymore like Sears use to.

I spoke to WalMart and echoed the sentiments voiced here and then insisted that they stop the sale of new tires for cars...the rep. was baffled and asked my why...
I told him that many thousands of people every year die in car accidents and that surely a number of those car had tires that were purchased at WalMart.
"Even if it saves only one life it is well worth it isn't it?" Therefore quit selling tires, they go on cars and everyone knows cars kill people.....

What people have never understood is that Walmart and even Dicks Sporting Goods are really no friends to gun owners overall. Both have turned their back on them ever since the hysteria began over Newtown. Dick's of course struck first by stopping sales of all semi auto firearms and now Walmart. Both of these companies are good at doing one thing, driving little gun shops out of business. Since Walmart opened where I live, they knocked out a couple gun shops (both owners told me how many sales they lost when they opened and could not compete) and have hurt a few more. The only gun shops that have survived Walmart and Dicks are ones that sell more than those two offer, mainly handguns and reloading supplies. Any gun shop that just sold hunting rifles and gear was quickly buried. Now that Walmart and Dick's have shown their true colors, in some places people can't get what they want simply because the local gun shops are now gone.

This could be the straw that breaks the camels back for me as far as buying anything at walmart. I never shopped at dicks anyway.

Small town red state America is what made Walmart what it is today and now that they are a big time rich corporation they are turning their backs on us. As for me I am looking else where to do my shopping.

Walmart stopped selling ammo
grover99
I sent Walmart Corporate Headquarters an email this morning that they know longer would find me shopping in any of their stores.
I've never purchase any ammo from them but "did" purchase misc. item's and some groceries on a weekly basis.

From what I heard, Walmart is not placing orders to restock their stores at this point and time. They are waiting to see what happens with any possible ammo laws( think NO new laws) if any. They don't want to be sitting on anything they might not be able to sell in the near future.

Isn't this just kinda cheap bolstering on Walmarts part? To me this just screams PR stunt let me explain
Right now ammo sales are thought the roof manufactures cant make it as fast as people are buying it.
Places like Bass pro shop, Cabelas, Midwayusa, Brownells, etc most likely do the bulk of ammo sales. I would not be surprised at all to find out they have contracts just so if something like this happens there on the top of the list to receive resupply. I bet Walmart is having a almost impossible time finding ammo to buy to stock there shelves with.
What better way to cover up your inability to get something then to twist it so it makes you look good in the eyes of some of your customers.
Another thing that backs this up no one has said a word about them halting the order of guns. I talked to a guy in sporting goods today that said he cant even keep bolt action rifles in stock. He said as soon as they come in there gone. He has been getting shipments daily.

I think what Walmart is saying is, because we don't know if ammo sales are going to be limited or outlawed by Congress we aren't going to order any more ammo and then get stuck with a produce we won't be allowed to sell.

That's not what I've been hearing. Bitme wants to stop bulk sales of ammo and limit ammo sales too according to what's being leaked out of the meetings he's holding.

3 walmarts in a 20 mile radius and confirm no more orders being placed,,with todays new of millions of dollars devoted to usa made goods and jobs for vets i have in my mind some kind of copensation was promised from Obama to not order any more ammo and maybe stop selling all together...Wgere are they gonna get that much usa made goods,,not in clothes, shoes, electronics, furniture or home supplies
heaven knows it would be a boon but to me we pay twice,1 for obama compensation and 1 for the goods..good luck to the vets cause they need jobs!!!forgot to say ammo shelves are bare at walmart too!!!

Sounds like we have same habits, 'course I'm usually early and very few clerks around. #1 rule: avoid crowds if possible.

I talked to my local Walmart Sporting Goods manager this morning. He said he hasn't heard anything like that from hdqtrs. He said customers were waiting for him this morning when he got there a 7 AM. He had a case of 38's and a case of 9mm and it was all gone by 7:15. Latest news it's business as usual for Walmart and they are restocking as fast as they can.

Here's what I was told
My local NW Ohio Walmart said that Walmart HQ is no longer taking ammo orders from the stores. HQ is continuing to ration out ammo to the stores.
This makes sense in light of the current shortages.

There are two Walmarts I visit that both sell guns and ammo, but my last stop was about 2 weeks ago when they still had a few boxes left... It looks like they now mandate that the key to the ammo shelves be kept only with the manager of that store. So now an employee has to ring in for the manager, which can end up taking forever, depening on how busy they are. I waited over a half hour, and the employee the whole time kept asking me what I needed the ammo for... in fact she kept referring to them as “bullets”... “What’cha need dem bullets for?” I decided to just start paying a little more and buying at the gun shops instead.

WalMart ammo
On Tuesday the 15th local WalMart ammo shelves pretty empty. Yesterday they were well stocked w/ exception of .22 bricks and .223, also no primers except shotgun 209's. Looks like long wait for primers but at least they seem to be able to get most handgun and rifle ammo. I'm well stocked w/ components so no problem here, if you don't reload it looks like hunt and hope to find.

I stopped by Walmart in Northwest Indiana today and was told the same thing. The sales rep said it came down from Walmart corporate office that they were "not allowed to place any ammunition orders until further notice."

Sad
Howdy,
Sad thing is that prior to Wal-Mart there were half a dozen small hardware stores around here that thought enough of a persons business to stock things for you. Target .22 ammo etc.
All perished or were annihilated by Sam Walton.
The scariest thing to me is if the proposed ban on internet sales would pass I could be dependent on Wal-Mart for my ammo/reloading needs.
Think how much that would suck for most competition shooters or special need shooters.
I see a lot of folks around the forum that don't belong to the NRA and I ask all of you to think about joining. I know that is a hard pill for some of you to swallow, but I ask that you think about it and what we face in the near future.
Thanks
Mike

This is what I did before reloading and this is what we ALL need to do. If we don't support the LGS's then they will be gone and all that will remain is a few government friendly corporations. Stop counting your pennies and start counting your blessings while you still have them.

None at Walmart in Maryland. Can't even find magazines.

Went to Walmart.com and used the site to check availability of 22lr and 9mm ammo this morning. The website indicated that the local Walmart had both in stock. Took a ride to the store and bought two 50 round boxes of Federal 9mm FMJ and one box of Winchester bulk (555 rounds) 22lr. Wife bought the same. Now I can make a trip to the range.

The GM of my local store is a gun enthusiast, and responded to us by phone when asked about this. He stated that stores are not allowed to order ammunition, and the warehouses are using an allocation system, which distributes supplies evenly to all stores. Walmart is still buying whatever ammo they can get, and still trucking it out to stores as much as possible.

Here in Houston the local Walmarts have been getting ammo throughout the frenzy - just not nearly as much as before, If you have the time to check them frequently, you will find much of what you want.

I talked to a gentleman who works at the local Walmart ditribution center near here and he says they get ammo almost daily and it is sent to stores which usually sell it all in 1 to 2 days even with the 3 box limit.

I didn't know that Wal-Mart ever "took orders" for ammo. If you check their website, they always said available only in stores... Maybe I misunderstood OP.
As for the W-M haters, their home office is in Bentonville, AR - not NYC. In fact, Wal-Marts aren't welcome in most parts of NYC. That would make for strange bedfellows.

I was "in town" yesterday, and stopped in to Wally World to pick up some contact lens solution. As always, I stopped by the sporting goods department to see if they had any ammo - as usual during recent months, the ammo cabinet was just about bare (I had been to the gun shop earlier in the day, picked up two boxes of 22LR (their weekly limit per customer), a pound of powder (limit 1 lb) and 200 primers (limit). The lady at Wally (an avid shooter and hunter, btw) said the managers (especially the regional manager) had been asking why the department's sales were down so far, and she told them that when "corporate" won't let them order, and only ships a limited supply of their biggest seller (ammo), their sales are going to be down. They hadn't figured that out! BTW, the real shortages at Wally became noticeable after their CEO met with Biden/Obama and agreed to limit ammo sales "pending legislation." That is when they stopped allowing the stores to order their ammo, and began sending out miniscule shipments of same.

Doesn't matter the excuses. Wal Mart and Dicks sporting goods will never see another penny from me. I used to buy my little sisters coats from dicks and I'll pay triple the price from other places online during holiday season before I ever park my truck in a dicks sporting goods parking lot. May be stupid, I don't care it's just my opinion.

The sad part is people continue to shop Walmart. I dropped them several years ago.
If you quit shopping there. It will get a message across!!!
