One of the LGS I visit in my rounds and my FFL I use most seems to be able to get .380 auto. My wife hoots .380'so I have been buying from him as she needs it. He has some odd calibers that most people don't need like .41mag, 17hmr, .762 x 54, .44mag, ...But other than the .38 spl and .380 auto he has zero 9mm, .22LR, or .45ACP in target loads. Most stores have even run out of .40 cal ammo and semi auto's... they hung in the longest.

22Lr and other ammo shortages
I was at the LGS today and they had SO MUCH .40 s&w it was crazy!! I snagged the last box of .357mag and a few boxes of 5.56 for good measure. With as bare as the store was I fear they will not be there long. :/

Walmart and Ammo Shortage
I was speaking with a manager of our local Walmart the other day regarding the ammo shortage. He told me that they have received communication from the DHS not to stock certain types of ammo and to not even order it. So he said that he does not place orders for more ammo any longer and just takes what comes on the truck and it is usually sold out within 30 minutes. I do not know if he was telling the truth or just blowing smoke but It sure seems fishy to me.

online ammo scams
Has anyone else had the honor of getting 22 ammo bought and paid for then only 3 or so weeks , just about the time you should be getting it have the company say sorry there is a problem with your order . they only got me for 50 dollars or so but times that with a million people and that turns into a lot of money and if they return the money then what about the interest that it earned in that month. who gets it ? not me is there anyone out there that I can turn these companys into as they are selling ammo that they do not have in stock?? thank you for reading this and I hope you do not get suckered into what I did

Not saying their practices are correct but... have you checked out the interest rates lately? I don't think they are getting rich off of your 50 bucks.

If you know a bank paying enough interest to make a scam like this worthwhile, please let me know.

There is no shortage in any ammo people, especially 22lr ammo like everyone thinks. Go on gun broker, there is over 2 million rounds for sale on there. The reason why you are not finding it in stores is due to the greed and opportunity for the ammo wholesalers and gun shops to just take all there shipment of top rounds like 9mm, 45, 38, 22lr, 7.62 , 223, etc and sell it on gun broker for 200-400 % profit margins, plain and simple. If all the dumb idiot people buying ammo and guns right now , would just stop for a couple months, ammo would go back to what it used to be 6 months ago or even lower since they would have a **** ton of extra ammo they are sitting on.

I'm not sure that's a fair assessment. For those of us caught short, it might be a big risk. What if I pass up 9mm selling for $0.60/round today, and six months from now, it's gone up to $2.00? Given recent events, I think that's a highly likely scenario.

If a Wal-Mart manager told me the sky was blue and grass was green I would go outside and see for myself. They are clueless and more than likely he/she was blowing smoke up your rear.

^^^^^ This.
"Wal-Mart Manager" means they've been there 12 weeks and get to wear the scrunchy wrist band with the keys on it!

2 million rounds .. That's ONLY One Half Days' of CCI's production .. so somewhere there's one hellish case of 22lr constipation ehh And that's just One domestic 22lr ammo maker. Right? Aguila and Wolf just riding the tide? Brass .. the new Gold in 2013 (and here I thought is was gonna be water). Essayons!

Exact reasoning of why ammo is so expensive right now, feed into the hype.

A change in tides...all the new gun owners have no idea what they should be paying...all they know is, I got this gun and I need ammo...so, I better buy some.
If all they know is 22lr sells for $60 for a box of 333 bullets, they don't know they shouldn't buy at that price...so..they buy..and buy..and buy.

I said it in another post, but be PATIENT. To pay current secondary market prices is ridiculous, yes. Ammo is slowly starting to appear in better quantities and at "normal" prices.
Stopped by my local Sportsman's Warehouse over lunch today and while there was no ammo on the shelf, they got a truckload in, literally, and had shopping carts full behind a table...there was a line, but they were allowing you 3 boxes per caliber. They had multiple brands for all calibers. Even with a constant line, a buddy went 2 hours later and was still able to get the .22lr and .223 he wanted. The prices were what you'd expect. $7.99 for 100 CCI Mini Mag, $7.99 for Lake City 5.56, $27 for 100 rds of Remington UMC, etc.
Back to my point...don't overpay and be patient. While it is slow, the ammo is coming back.

I went through 94 and 08. This is far worse. Estimates of up to two years before supplies get caught up.
Its no conspiracy, its a full blown panic.

A friend of mine who got really fed up called Remington ask when there would be any more .22 LR ammunition. Several days later, when someone from Remington returned his called, they quoted him "four years." FOUR YEARS.

It's there now if you are willing to pay the price. Millions of rounds on gunbroker. With the panic we have done this to ourselves. I don't see shoot sports being inexpensive for a long long time.

I sure hope you are right. Not much around here. Shotgun, 40 cal s&w and some .223 that's about it. Found ONE BOX of .357 mag hollow point at the LGS and it was like Christmas. Sad.

I find it hard to believe that everyone around me is locked and loaded to the gills, but there's still some of that ammo at my Sportsman's Warehouse along with, now get this, multiple 15-22's and Mossberg equivalents along with at least 8-10 various AR's. This is just one store.
My point is not to rub it in, but I'm an optimist and hope the same inventory starts making its way to the rest of you.

My father tells me I need to stop going so "gun crazy" lol. Funny thing is I only own a .22 rifle, where in the last 2 months he has bought an M&P 22, sig p250 .40, and a Kel Tec pf9. I buy ammo when I find it, and I don't see that as crazy. Right now I have about 1400 rounds of .22, 300 rounds of .40, and 100 rounds of 9mm. I'll buy ammo when I see it and let my dad use it too. There were 10 boxes of 9mm this afternoon when I got off work at academy. I am just a little bummed I can only buy 1 box per caliber up to 3 different and it is not like at walmart. But then again if it were that way I probably would have not even gotten even 1 box. My buddy went to academy first thing this morning when they opened and there were 3 cases of 1000 9 rounds for $250. That would have been nice to score.

Went to LGS today that had just got ammo off of the truck no 22lr. I think ammo companies are creating this shortage to raise prices why sell 22lr at.005 a round when 22lr is selling and going out of stock online at .030 a round.

Read a news story somewhere that said ammo has a 10 year shelf life and all the hoarders will have to find some way to dispose of it. Sheeesh! I shoot 1960's and 1970's ammo all the time with no problem. Where do these news outlets get their info?

My wife wanted to go for a ride Friday, after me moaning i said yeah....Any way i dropped her off at a store she wanted to try, at which time i spotted a LGS across the street, why not, walked in and they were STOCKED. at NORMAL prices, no 9's and no .223, but everything else, with a 2 box limit on EACH calibre.. got two Fed bricks for $19.99 each , and 2 boxes of .40. off brand for $21.99 each...Didn't ask why they had so much ammo or why their prices were low, just paid my cash, smiled and said thank you. Walmart's around here have zero.
