Walmart .38 supply
Stopped by the gun case today just to see if it was still empty and they had about 10 boxes of Federal .38 special 158 gr. Asked the old guy at the counter if he'd get me five boxes. He walks over and starts unlocking the cabinet and then points to a sign stating that they'd only sell 3 boxed per customer.
This whole time he was grumpy because we interrupted his folding t shirts. I said "Ok, give me three boxes". Then my wife said, "well, I'll by three boxes" to which this gentleman became obviously perturbed but he pulled out another two boxes after I said I only wanted five.
I don't understand what skin it is off his nose. I hate clerks who act like you did something to them personally in a situation like this.
Boxes were $20 apiece.

That's too bad.
I stopped in one near me this past Thursday and, although their case was mostly empty, they did have some 9MM, some .38 SPL and some 45ACP.
They also had a small paper sign saying they would only sell 3 boxes per day per customer.
So I asked the lady at the nearby register if they were actually following that "directive" and, if so, what exactly did it mean? Could I get 3 boxes of 9MM and 3 boxes of 38, or what?
She said, "I'm not sure what they mean." It wasn't there yesterday and no one mentioned it to her when she came in that morning.
So I told her, well, what I'd like to have is 3 boxes of 9MM, the last 2 boxes of 38SPL and the last 2 boxes of 45ACP!!
She got 'em out, rang 'em up (while I'm looking to see if the stupid computerized cash register is going to okay the quantities ) swiped my VISA and out I went
Sorry you got the grumpy guy, fonejack.

I just kind of want to know who's right it is to complain about me being grumpy. I kind of feel its my right to be grumpy as I want. The guy in the OPs story might have been grumpy because he had to get up to come unlock the cabinet. That'd make me grumpy (grumpier). I even considered becoming a WallyWorld greeter. I can just see it now, some ugly overweight hag comes in and I yell at her to go back home and come to the store when she's presentable. If ever. And as she got all insulted, i'd tell her to put on clothes, pajamas aren't proper dress, and neither are the dirty old pink house slippers. Guess I wouldn't last very long at that job, but it'd be fun while it lasted!

That 3 box limit has apparently been put up to stop people fighting over ammo. Yeah, I guess it's gotten that bad at some of the Walmarts. Not too surprizing considering some of the "people of Walmart".
I stopped in at my local Walmart Friday night because I've determined that is when they unpack the ammo they receive during the day Friday seems to be when ammo shows up. I was not alone. Unfortunatly, for me all that came in this week was 9mm Federal Champion and I don't own a 9mm. One small bit of good news for a co-worker who asked me to check was they did have 4 boxes of the 40 caliber PPU hollow points on the shelf. While not a great ammo it will do for him to satisfy the requirement to do an hour of range work to renew his CPL. So, I bought 2 boxes of that. Since there was about 6 of us waiting around to get ammo when the lady with the key showed up we all lined up in an orderly fashion and in about 3 minutes every bit of that 9mm had been sold 3 boxes at a time.

They could either ration ammo by this method or price it at $100 a box. That will ration it, too.
Which do you prefer? Free market says price it at what the market will bear and the market will obvious bear more than what they're selling it for.

The buying limit seems reasonable to me. The grumpy behaviour when asked to just do his job, not so much. Lack of courtesy and just flat-*** rudeness is something I see more & more of, and not just at Walmart.
Those vendors imposing buying limits are just trying to serve the maximum number of their customers as best they can, instead just the one earlybird/hoarder. I'm actually kind of glad they're doing it. Hopefully the panic will subside before too long.

rburg,
While I tend be in agreement about who's right it is to complain about someone being grumpy it's not what customers should have to deal with in the retail or service industry. I would love to have a contest to see which one of us would last the longest as a Wally World Greeter. Probably neither one would last more than 30 minutes
hotrod150,
+1
I personally can put up with grumpy a damn site more than I can stupid.

I'm worried if I end up disability retirement eventually from my injury and surgeries where they will stick me. See with workers comp now they tell you to go out and get work. I told them I really don't want to be a greeter at Walmart because if I wanted to deal with the general public I wouldn't be working in a jail. I figure I would do that job for about 30 minutes until I see one of the ex inmates come in and then after I tell them we don't allow pets, until they fire me or something.

Let's get back to ammo. The sporting goods folks in my local WalMart in Vegas are cool, but the store had not carried the R-P 250 rd bulk packs for almost 2 years. The display case is near empty, except for some RF, small auto pistol loads and hunting rifle ammo. According to the sporting goods mgr., a buddy, everything 'business' goes out as soon as it comes in. Gun stores here are out of most everything, and local folks displaying at gun shows have become sharks, charging as high as $1.50 a round for .223/5.56.

kaaskop49,
Carbon copy of what it's like here in central Texas. Tonight I bought 150 rounds of 9mm Federal Champion 115gr. FMJ for .40 cents a round and was proud to get it. We do have a local munitions factory that does new and reloads. After a months wait I got 200 rounds of .38 spl 147gr. wadcutters for $26.00 a hundred. In today's market I guess .26 cents a round ain't too bad

You shop at Walmart, what do you expect? I'm happy if I can just get anyone to open the case after 20 minutes of waiting around.

I would not necessarily blame the grumpy guy because Walmart set him up for a day full of smart ***** remarks and ill tempered customers with an ill defined policy like that. Most understand the purpose of limiting the purchases but time and again I hear the customers giving the low paid clerks the fifth degree, acting like shade tree lawyers and complaining as if the clerk is the reason there is a shortage of ammo.

Same here. We had to send a search party out yesterday to find someone to open the case. Finally found him trying to pick up on the girl in home and garden.

God bless the Wal Mart employees. Cause if they were not there then the 3 registers that are open would be closed like the other 25.
