7.62x25 Tokarev?
Anybody have any luck at all finding Tokarev ammo? I know this is not modern ammunition, but I'm big into military surplus firearms and cannot source it. I am looking for some brass/bullets/reloading supplies, military surplus ammo, hollow points/defense ammo, or commercial target ammo. If anybody can help me out or point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Starline makes brass, Sierra makes a good 85 gr. cannellured bullet. RCBS, CH-4D and Lee (at least) sell dies. Winchester was loading ammunition. There are probably others.

This is why I got rid of my CZ-52 in 2011. Started to get tough to find cheap surplus.
Here's some (overpriced) surplus: Show Search Results
That's all that I found in stock.

Can you use 7.63 Mauser pistol ammunition in the Tokarevs.
The Tok ammo works in the Mausers C96 Broomhandle.
.. though most people feel the Milsurp version is too hot for the old Mauser pistols.
Most places have Prvi Partizan 7.63 Mauser 85gr. Full Metal Jacket
in stock.
Any where from $16/box 50 and up.

Several years ago I bought one of the Chinese Tokarevs and one of
the CZ-52s that were being imported at that time. Norinco ammo was
still being imported back then and so I stocked up on their non
corrosive 7.62 x 25. Still have a fair amount. I also bought a couple
boxes of S&B. It is 85 gr FMJ just like the original stuff and was part
of their regular cartridge line and so should still be available. I think
mine came from Natchez.

7.62 Tokarev is supposed to be .310 bullet diameter.
7.63 Mauser pistol is .309/310
Here's what Starline says about the difference between the Tokarev case & the Mauser case:
7.62X25 TOKAREV BRASS (SMALL PISTOL PRIMER)
7.62mm Tokarev, 7.62x25mm Russian Tokarev
0.958 - 0.964 O.A.L.
This case is very similar, except for the difference in length, to the .30 Mauser. Due to higher operating pressures, if the .30 Mauser cases are fired with hotter 7.62x25 loads in the CZ-52, it will tear the neck off some cases. 30 Mauser O.A.L. is .980" to .985" while 7.62x25 O.A.L. is .958" to .962".
**************************************
Starline Brass > 30
30 MAUSER BRASS (SMALL PISTOL PRIMER)
7.63x25mm, 7.63 Mauser
0.979 - 0.986 O.A.L.
This rimless, bottleneck cartridge was developed by American gun designer Hugo Borchardt and was used in the Mauser pistol.
>
So I take it that,,
Loads safe for the C-98 Mauser pistol & loaded in 7.63 Mauser cases are apparently fine for the Tokarev pistol. The additional case length causing no problem due to the reduced power load in those cartridges.
BUT if you take the empty 7.62 Mauser cases and load them with Tokarev rated data loads,,the extra case length WILL case problems.
As I said, I've never shot 7.63 Mauser rounds in a Tokarev before. Never owned a Tokarev.
Shooting the Tokarev ammo in a Mauser pistol will cause damage to it's locking lug ribs,,that I have seen. Too much for the old gals to handle.
Tokarevs are able to eat just about anything from what I have seen of them though. Simple and strong.
7.63 Mauser ammo is loaded light as it is intended for but one firearm,,the C96 Broomhandle. Though there are probably others chambered for the round.
Most of the C96's around that are shot are of the Chinese imported variety from the '90's and not the best examples as far as condition and safety.
Most any milsurp ammo around will be berdan primed. Not easily reloaded and the berdan type primers not easily found.
Do some searching on the web and see if using 7.63 MAuser ammo is popular with the Tokarev shooters.
Starline is sold out of Tok brass,,but has the Mauser brass in stock. Same situation as the ammo with the distributors.

The Sierra bullets seem to be only .308" and might not be very accurate. Even though .310" would probably be best I'm fairly sure .309" will also work. Hornady has a .309" 90gr XTP bullet available. (and the price isn't bad either)

Fiocchi also loads it, though availability is spotty and it isnt' nearly as cheap as the surplus J&G used to carry. I roll my own.

I tried getting some super hot JHP from Reed's but it was on backorder for so long I had already decided to sell the gun. He does have several varieties up on his site: 7.62x25 - Reed's Ammunition & Research, LLC

Winchester , Prvi Partizan , Fiocchi and S&B all make modern non-corrosive , Boxer-primed ammo.
I still find 60rd yellow boxes of Norinco , steel cased stuff.

The 100 grain plinker works in both the C96 and the Tok. I have C96s, Toks and CZ52s. Will use the Tok rounds in the Tok and the CZ52 and the Mauser in any of them, but occasionally the CZ52 will fail to extract my home-rolled Mauser rounds.
