Default 38 Short

I have a Model 10, 38 revolver, it is an old Victory Model, barrel is marked for a S&W 38 CTG.

I know this is not for 38 Special or +P

Is a 38 "Short" round the correct ammo for this revolver?

Fiocchi sells 38 Short 145 grain, 780 FPS ammo

thanks

In looking at their catalog (very tiny print online) I think I see a listing for ".38 S & W Short", which may be correct. One company loads a short .38 Special for Cowboy Action Shooting but I forget which company or what they named it.

If it is available in your local store I'd ask them if it is the same as .38 S & W, or buy .38 S & W ammo that you know is correct. It should work fine in your Victory Model.

I guess Fiocchi is trying to rename the classic 38 S&W round in this country to 38 S&W Short. As I recall, Europe uses this designation as well as 38 Corto. There are 2 different rounds, lead and FMJ.

1. Ammo .38 S&W Short-38 S&W Corto 145 Grain FMJ Fiocchi
This is currently loaded ammunition by Fiocchi for firearms chambered in 38 S&W Short using 145 grain FMJ bullets.
Muzzle Velocity: 780 feet per second
Muzzle Energy: 225 ft. lbs

2. Ammo .38 S&W Short Fiocchi Pistol Shooting Dynamics 145 Grain LRN Bullet 720 fps 50 Rounds 38SWSHL
Caliber: .38 Smith & Wesson Short
Bullet Type: Lead Round Nose
Bullet Weight: 145 Grain
Muzzle Energy: 167 ft/lbs
Muzzle Velocity: 720 fps

Magtech makes a 38 S&W 145gr LRN load, which is the proper caliber for your revolver. They also make a 38 Spl short 125gr LRN as a reduced recoil 38 Spl load.

There is also a .38 short Colt that is the same dia. as a .38 Spec. and the case will swell in a S&W Victory.Larry

The case is the same diameter as 38 Special, but the 38 SC uses a .375ish outside lubricated, heeled bullet, and the 38 S&W uses a .364ish inside lubricated bullet. The 38 Special uses a .358 inside lubricated bullet.
