Default Crud around the primer??

Sooo...I was checking out these 5 year old Winchester PDX1's I have and noticed like a white hard crud around the primer. Anyone ever see this before? These were stored properly the whole time, so I'm not really sure what it is. A little work with a tooth pick and tooth brush removed it, but is this stuff good to shoot still?

Thanks in advance!

Hard to see, but yes, my PDX1's have it too. I always thought it was oil-proofing around the primer or something.

Sellior&Bellot ammo has the same stuff, just red.

They tumble their ammo, so what you're seeing in tumbling media that wedged itself in the crack.

Thanks guys! Next question...I fear I did something really, really stupid. I used some M Pro-7 to clean that crud out. I didn't soak it, I just used a I little and wiped it real fast. Do you think I screwed up this box of ammo or do think I'm fine? I didn't even think of it when I was doing it.

You're probably just fine, the seal between the primer and casing is actually rather tight and typically waterproof.

I wouldn't use it for carry ammo after doing that. Save it for range practice instead.

Well, I went to the range today and shot all 20. No problems at all! The only thing I did notice was how damn accurate my 45c is.
