Default Pre-election 9mm price?

I am new to the 9mm cartridge thanks to my new Shield. I have always bought 45 and 22, but I do not have a history with 9mm Walmart prices.

What was the typical price for 50 count box Federal 9mm FMJ at Walmart before the election/Sandy Hook/AWB Frenzy (pre-October 2012)?

I don't see ammo prices going down until maybe 2016 if a republican gets elected president. But if Hilliary or Joe get elected ammo prices will be through the roof and impossible to find worse than it is now.

Prices will differ around the country. Around here the least expensive 9MM I could find was about $10 per box.

Before 2008 you could easily buy a box of 50 9mm ammo for ~$6. In 2007 I bought 2 cases of Remington UMC 9mm for $42.95 each, that's $4.29/box. That wasn't so long ago. Before this shortage you would be lucky to find a box/50 for $12.

BUT, who would have thought .38 Special ammo would be even worse?

Look joz, you had a chance to just stay blissfully ignorant, but NO! you just had to ask.

I am an instructor, and was appalled to have to pay $128.39 (after tax) for a bulk box of 350 Blazer Brass (7 trays of 50 in a big box) 9MM last week. That's $18.34/box of 50. I don't shoot a lot of 9MM, but my students often do. I bought some to have, in case they couldn't get any.

I must say that I never saw it for less than $11.99/box before the more recent unpleasantness. Nobody in my neck of the woods sold it for $7 or $8 a box, I can tell you that. I would have bought a bunch if that were the case.

In December of 2012, our local (Illinois and Missouri) Wal-Marts were selling 50rd WWB or PMC FMJ 9mm ammo from $11.97-$15.97 per box. Same price in Kansas when I lived out there.

When I see 9mm ammo selling online right now, I will not pay anything over $14/box. I've got enough ammo not to "need" it...plus it is coming in...s l o w l y. I buy most of mine remanufactured from Freedom Munitions...awesome prices and awesome ammo.

Good luck!

PS - a good week at Wal-Mart used to net me THIS.....

Approximately 10 years ago Wolff steel case 115 gr. 9 MM was $88 O.T.D. from a gun show ammo business. That’s $4.40 per 50. I haven’t used mine up so I didn’t need to look at Wal-Mart 9 MM prior to the current political nonsense. The best deal I could get on .38 special 10 years ago was $7 for 50 Seller & Bellot [?spelling] 158 gr FMJ.

At current prices or even at the prices after Obama first took office the only thing that makes sense is to cast and reload or shoot .22 LR.

Just before everything left the shelves, I bought a case of Speer Lawman 9mm fmj for $300. That's $15 per box of 50. That price included shipping. I usually figure about $1 per box for shipping ($20/case). Looking in my inventory, the best price I still have on hand is a 1/2 case of Winchester 115gr 9mm for 9.50 per box. I bought that local so no shipping. I've talked to my friend at the LGS and he is selling 9mm for $16.50 per box. Personally, I'm stuck at not paying more than $15. We'll see what happens as my supply gets used.

WalMart prices vary from store to store, depending on competition. I've seen as much as $5.00 difference for 50 rounds between two stores within 30 miles.

I was able to score $14 per box AE 9mm 127gr FMJ Friday from MidwayUSA (10 box limit). Sold out in 3 minutes. The online ammo alerts seem to be appearing more and more. Inventory is getting better.

Press releases like this are a good sign too:

Last year I was getting cases of Speer Lawman, PMC, or S&B for $200-220 delivered. You can still find some deals out there. I order for myself and friends who can't monitor the web. By the time I could call or text them about a deal it is GONE. This past week I ordered 500rds of Fiocchi 9mm from Midway @ $12.99 box. Shipping was high and brought it close to $15 box.

In recent weeks have gotten several 500rd orders Win 115gr for $155 delivered from Cabela's. Have to watch the site and be ready to pounce when it pops up. Best deal is their $5 shipping with Cabela's visa card.

You can be sure I am keeping a list of the places that are gouging at $.50- .75 or more per round, and even more insane prices for .22lr !

Agreed! But just try to find it on their online store. They say that they populate their site every week with 1/2 millon rounds and that they limit sales to 500 rounds. I have yet to see ANYTHING on their site since January. Yet I see it on GB everyday and selling in lots ranging from 250-1000 rnds daily. If they're even populating their site and limiting sales to 500 rounds, then where are the GB sellers getting these huge quanities from?. I recently bought(9mm Freedom Munitions) from a local guy that sells on GB and he always has THOUSANDS of rounds at a time available. Too bad he wants .50/rnd(and up) for them, but he is selling(mostly 9mm, but recently .223, & .40S&W). I've lost all faith in Freedom Munitions as a viable source and I wish they would just shut down their website(along with all the other sites that have been posting "Out of Stock" for the past 4 months) since they don't want to sell online anymore.
Exhusting rant over(for now)

I beg to differ. Before the last Obamascare, I bought a case of Blazer Brass 9mm for $7.00 a box at Wal Mart..

Last year I could buy 100 rounds of 9mm fmj Federal at Walmart for 19.99 plus tax. I would always take a shopping cart to the sporting goods section and load up. Also I could buy 100 40 s&w Federal for about $28 and 100 45 acp Federal for $30. Those were the days.

You have no idea how right you are. People are whining and crying now-its going to get worse and people will BEG to pay $20. for a box of 9mm and $50. for a brick of .22lr, esp. if you a need a card to buy it or when its taxed, or a tax stamp-who knows!
