Default GULF STATES DISTRIBUTERS: A terrible place to purchase!!!

Sorry this is long. I thought I found a good place for ammo in Montgomery Al. Many of the employees are helpful but that is where the courtesy stops. A couple of brands of ammo are marked exclusive for LE, active and retired military. As a spouse of a retired member I thought it would be ok to purchase and showing them my ID each time they let me. When finding out a spouse not included policy by a jerk cashier bent on embarrassing me in front of God, my son, and others my wife and I made a deal with mngmt for me to show my spouse's ID to purchase. She is unable to get there. When I came back, the jerk stated the mngmt was wrong and I had to call the mngmt to clarify. Even though I was correct, he stated a couple of boxes of ammo would never be worth his time and that I should take my business elsewhere. We all buy ammo a couple of boxes at a time but we don't deserve to put up with that. The name is Gulf States Distributors and the mngmt is Vice President Conrad Naftel. They insult the military spouse by stating they are only dependents unable to care for themselves. The jerk cashier kept flashing his blue retired ID to show us what a real one looks like. I've served 8 years active and 12 DOD. I am now a professor at Auburn University. I know what honor is. I sincerely suggest not purchasing from this company. I encourage you to let them know how you and your spouse feel about this: (President) [email protected] and (Vice President) [email protected]

Good. Why should the ammo rules differ for you?

First, i dont see it as a big deal that he gets a discount. Everyone turns so bitter of a box of bullets

Second, if the OP in fact has served why doesn't he just show his card?

It doesn't say discount. It says "these boxes are saved for only select people". That is different. How would he feel if they said "no ammo" for cops? Or no ammo for people over 213.45 lbs. or whatever.

"Second, if the OP in fact has served why doesn't he just show his card?"

Arik:
I think what he is saying is that there is an allotment per person and he is trying to also buy his spouse's (who wasn't present) 2 or 3 box allotment while he is shopping.

What is beginning to bug me is the cropping up of threads that are only intent upon belittling persons or companies that don't see eye to eye with the person starting the thread. Everyone who does business eventually has issues, whether it is with the Taco Bell drive-thru dude who told you he put plenty of sauce in the bag and you find out he didn't put any in after you get home or the guy at the sporting goods store who is tired of people saying the 2 box limit shouldn't apply to the boxes marked .223 and 223 because one manufacturer didn't put the decimal in front of the 2, and he mistakenly calls the customer a moron.
Most are local issues and should be posted in local forums in my opinion.

First, they are not a local store. They retail for the entire country and just like many they do have certain items that are allotted for certain individuals like law enforcement and military. They do this because they are trying to honor the service and commitment. Second, I never said discount in any way. I pay what you pay. Third, Fire75, sorry I turned on the jealousy faucet for you but the fact is I did not make up the rules, the store did. The point that no one seemed to get what I thought was painfully obvious was how a complete jerk the sales person was and how dismissive the owner was to those of us who buy a few boxes at a time. I guess my story took too long for some. Sorry. I wanted to save my forum members from the terrible customer service I encountered. Hence, the title.
Oh Yea. One box per customer.

Now I'm just laughing my *** off! Maybe I should just close this thread so no one hurts themselves.
Arik: I'm not sure where you get that I'm bitter over a couple of boxes of ammo. What I said was, I'm a vet but I did not retire, my spouse did. The stated I could show her ID to make purchases b/c she is unable to come in. However, the sales person was such a jerk and talked bad about his employer and yet the employer would rather put up with that then help the customer. His words were no customer was worth his time. If that's not clear I don't know what is.
Fire75: you sure make a lot of assumptions. Why do you think I my user is mr citizen? Plus, I didn't think the constitution was racist. There's more than one citizen I think and many are defending your rights to be one right now.

Mr. Citizen - thanks for you and your wife's service.
I have shopped at the store and had many good experiences and transactions. Alot of good revolvers have come out of that store and ended up right here on this Forum.
What did the VP and the Pres say to you when you contacted them personally and discussed your problem with them?

I agree.
Every retailer might have employees that are not optimum, or could simply be having a bad day.
Sometimes, a misunderstanding MIGHT even be a customer's fault.

Unless you have spoken with management, I don't see the point in bashing a business where others apparently do just fine.
The internet can be a powerful, but ONE sided tool.

In Montgomery AL you can go to Walter Craig / The sportsmans wharehouse on the northern bypass. Not the best ammo prices but close to online prices when you consider shipping. Usually have lots of federal.

I shop there all the time. The store is aimed primarily at law enforcement although they do sell to civilians. The rules are very clear. Because of the current ammo shortage, some ammo (not all) is sold only to LEO's, active military and retired military.

If the sales clerk acted as you say, that is unfortunate. But, we are seeing one side of the story.

Jim

Your understanding of the company's policies may become clearer if you delve into the internet and look at the owner and who his brother is. Hint: the last name is Dees.

That’s the way to do it go up the chain of command and make your complaint as how the employee embarrassed you in front to other customers. You should never have to deal with being embarrassed by a store employee no matter who they are. When the shortage is over will the store survive on only exclusive to LE, active and retired military. If they do then there must not be many civilian shooters around. Doesn’t the military and LE supply ammo for practice? Seam's like they should with all the billions of rounds the government is buying. When I was in you could hone up you shooting skills for free one box of .45acp and 5.56 per day with their firearms, but that was in a time of Vietnam. Have a complaint go to management I have done it many times. And if your spouse wasn’t present there was no obligation to sell to a customer that wasn’t there. Bottom line is if you don’t like their policy don’t go there anymore.

And yes there are 3 sides to every story, mine, yours, and the truth. I'm not saying you are lying just we only hear your side.

IMO this kind of public bashing in a post is not the way your beef with a business should be handled.
Contact the owner(s) and give them the opportunity to properly respond.

Shop there all the time and have always been treated well.
The prices aren't jacked either
Sounds like a mountain out of a molehill. Hornady TAP and Critical Duty
restricted to LE etc. but anyone can buy Critical Defense ,
Gold Dot or Hydra-Shok. Sure you didn't over-react?

From the OP's convoluted story it sounds as if he was not actually eligible to purchase a certain sort of ammunition but married to someone who is? Then asked about it and the store manager said that he could buy on his wife's ID as long as she was present and the trouble started when he skipped the "bring the wife" part and just brought her ID. The clerk (who has to deal with ammo hounds every minute of every day) knows nothing of this "deal" and says he has to call his manager. This makes the clerk a jerk? Glad I'm not in sales...
