I was at the computer finishing up bulletins for the churches this Sunday. Before I finished, I just happened to click on a little bookmark for a LGS about 30 miles from here. Nothing showed on the screen but, on the off chance, I gave them a phone call. Wonder of wonders! They have .22 LR in stock. It is Fiocchi .22 LR copper plated hollow point.
Now the price. Are you ready for this... $35/500 rds. My jolly golly! Now, before all this ammo shortage mess hit, I never bought Fiocchi for the same reason I never bought Eley or RWS... to high priced! Yesterday I finally found some Federal Auto-Match at $14.47/325 rds at of all places... Wal-Mart! Today I called and they are sold out with no idea when any more will arrive. Yesterday was the first time I've seen .22 LR at Wal-Mart in several months. The LGS has not had any .22 LR ammo since February. When they had CCI Mini-Mags, the price was $8/100 rds. So maybe the price on this Fiocchi stuff is not out of line.
What to do! What to do! I've got to try and think this thing through. The store opens tomorrow morning at 7:30 A.M. What I've got to decide is... not do I go and buy the one brick that I'm allowed! What I've got to do is figure out how to get my beloved wife to go with me so that I can buy two bricks! Any ideas? Helpful hints? Warnings about waking my wife up early on her off day? Offers of a dog house to borrow if this thing goes wrong?
