Has anyone heard of this brand?
Ran across this the other day and wondering what kind of load it is. 158 gr SWC in nickel cases. It's defently reman sence it's mixed head stamps. The two boxes have slighty diferent SWC shapes, but other then that they look nice. I figure worse case I brake them down and use the case and bullets for my own reloads.

Don't know whether they are worth a lot of money, but those boxes are a historical gem! Lee Jurras of Shelbyville, IN was the originator of Super-Vel. I assume that someone just used the boxes, but maybe he was in the remanufactured ammo business before he started moving up in the world.
Anybody know one way or the other?

Well....the worst case would be shooting some of it and getting a KABOOM.
Same reason I won't shoot someone else's handloads, unless I shoot them in their gun too.

Super Vel was the Cor Bon of the 60;s 70's and 80's. The loads were all very hot, but usually very accurate. I used my load data to try to duplicate the .380 Load from Super Vel. They used a 90gr. Sierra bullet, and until I tried many powders and settled on AA#5, I could not get a load to shoot as accurately (used my PPK as a test gun). The Super Vel would GROUP like a target load....and was it ever hot.
I finally made a load that was equal to Super Vel in accuracy, but it was at the top of, or slightly above, some recommended loads.

I used to shoot that stuff out of my Mod 19! Very hot loads for the time.

k53: I've come across some very strange .38 ammo (including case lots) in the recent past that looked real good on the surface, and proved to be nerve-wracking. Problems included: irregular powder charges (or no powder charges) with bullets going sideways thru targets (at 5-7 yards), bullets protruding from the muzzle of a 4" bbl revolver after 'firing,' the list goes on. I would be careful here: I've seen some very odd rounds (and mixing) in ammo boxes at gunshow tables.
I would be careful here. IMO.

I shot a lot of that back in the 70's, and it is high quality stuff (it did take me a while to figure out you were saying "definitely remanufactured", but I'm slow).
Super Vel deserves a lot of credit for getting the bigger manufacturers to upgrade their game. If you feel like looking up Lee Jurras, he is an interesting gentleman.
