M&P 9c ammo question
With Speer GD 124 hard to find, would you choose GD 115 or 147 for a short barrel like the 9c?

115's, but I'd keep looking for the 124's. They shoot very well in my 9c.
Georgia Arms makes them. They also make a 124 gr. FMJ to practice with.
Good luck!

My wife prefers the 147's. They shoot high but hit hard.

115s. You want the velocity.

I think I'd rather have the mass, myself.
28% more mass (147/115) at 80% of the velocity (1000/1200).
But that's why they make different bullets. We each can have our choice.

I should have mentioned that the reason I did not pick the 147's for the short barreled compact is that there is concern that the XTP's and Gold Dots might not have sufficient velocity to open the bullet.
The 124's work well, and I haven't followed up to see if anything has changed. Good luck, hopefully you will find what you need.

I'm not a fan of light bullets in any caliber but I'm also not a fan of the 147gr bullet in the 9mm and barrel length has nothing to do with it. If you can't find 124gr bullet I think I would go with the 115gr bullets if they are meant for practice because they cost less and are more similar to the 124gr bullets than the 147gr bullets are.
I like the bullet weights that were used when the cartridge was developed. (like a 158gr bullet in the .38 Special)

Hopefully, the 124s will become more available. I have a few 50 of them, and 100 of the 115s. There are plenty of 115s available, but I think I'll wait for the 124s to show up somewhere----at a reasonable price.

And 115s have the velocity, right?
What about alternating the loads?

The 115 will expand quicker and penetrate less. The 147 will expand slower and penetrate more. Which would you prefer? Personally, I like the heavier bullet.

While I agree I still like the 124/125gr bullets best. I feel it's a good compromise between the other 2 weights and that works best for me.

I was at Vance Outdoors yesterday. Winchester White Box 9mm 115 were $20/50. "Because they're hollow points".
I haven't seen 124's on the shelf in a long time - at any price.
You may find that when they return, your idea of "reasonable" and the retailer's definition of "reasonable" may differ greatly!

I like the 115's, even though my gun shoots the 147gr a bit better.

I scored some 124s online, so I'm good on both loads now.

Expansion vs. penetration. I can't be concerned about a group that's an inch larger at 25 yards when I'm shooting at powder burn distance.
You choose the best ammunition for the job.
