Hornady products temporarily suspended
I just received an email from a distributor stating that Hornady will be temporarily suspending from production certain items "until further notice." It is a VERY extensive list, consisting of 10 pages in single spaced typing.
The document, which is on Hornady letterhead, is titled: "2013 Hornady Item "Suspended" List."
The first 4 1/2 pages are projectiles (bullets) and the remainder is ammunition.

Here's the link to Hornady for the announcement:
Product Availability Update - Hornady Manufacturing, Inc
As many other companies ae doing, they are running their machines at full capacity, and trying to minimize downtime to switch between products, by cutting less popular products.
"It will take two years to fill current orders at full capacity!"

Whew!
Orders increased 200%, that's a headache for business owners as,
successful businesses don't operate with that amount of EXCESS CAPACITY.
It takes times to tool up and expand to meet that kind of marketplace.
The industry is in the process of upgrading and expanding production,
but it takes time to acquire equipment, buildings AND PERMITS along with other GOVERNMENT APPROVALS.

Steve giving a little insight here as to what is taking place. I would certainly think that this information would quell the hoarders
but there I go thinking again

Hornady is most often my first choice of bullets. I see a couple of my favorites listed-- glad I have some on hand. Since I don't get out to hunt as much as I did, I will be ok. As far as range fodder, I will just have to look elsewhere. Things are available, you just have to hunt a bit harder. Too bad. How often have we found when a compines product is not available for very long people look and find what they need elsewhere and just don't return to those that let them down. The reason is often immaterial, but this may be going to happen elsewhere as well. Others will pick up the ball. I wish them luck with whatever it is they are trying to do.

Well I obviously don't know which bullets were the better seller. I would have thought the target/competition shooters, shooting the AMAX and BTHP's and the varmint hunters shooting Z/VMAX would have been the higher volume bullets. And of course those 55FMJs. These are usually available in 500 pks in addition to the standard 100 pks. I reckon there must be a zillion hunters buying a box or two a year to cause the hunting bullets to reaign supreme.

Let me be the first this time:
It's a conspiracy! They're out to get us! Hornady sold out to the Commie Pinko Ratfinks in Washington! The US Fish and Wildlife Service bought all the ammo to force us to take up bowhunting! Where's my tinfoil hat?

I am sorry to hear that those rounds are suspended. I have quite a few Hornady Hollow Point rounds for my handguns.
I was wondering if those were some of the ones now restricted by California and Colorado. I knew that they were
restricted in New Jersey. I would imagine that California was a big market. Could new restrictions in California have factored into their suspending them? I am referring only to Hornady Hollow Point ammo.

We would be better off if Hornady had just kept quite about it. All this does is fan the flames of the shortage and the only thing to come out of this will be 2 year backorders and suspension of production which will drive the shortage even deeper then it is now. This will provide justification for higher prices and place an undue burden on the other manufactures. What if they follow Hornadys lead and cut product.

Theoretically this should ease the crunch. They're not cutting production by any means. They're streamlining their product line and putting out a higher volume of their most popular ammunition.

Doesn't matter as all people will get out of this is "suspension of ammo and bullets along with 2 year backorder". It confirms peoples worst fears thus inflaming the current situation.

And, my friend, if nothing is said, those who feel a need to panic will say that "there hasn't been a word out of these ammo guys, that can't be good."
Like any wildfire it will eventually run out of fuel and extinguish itself. Don't know where you're in Texas located but if you can make a trip to Ohio, we're plumb flush with anything and everything - except those stupid 22's. Who needs 'em anyway!

Doom & Gloom, Doom & Gloom, the reality is MOST of us will start to see what MOST of us shoot the MOST of. Yes some of the specialty stuff will be harder to get but unless you only have specialty guns you should still be able to put rounds down range, and probably more often.

Agreed, but to LadyT's point, read the title of this thread and then watch the video. Several key points were left out of the headline and the remainder selected for effect.
Like the editor says:
If it's sensational print it.
If it's true, well, that's okay too.

Well since we have the 22's shouldn't you be heading to West Texas?

wow, I am glad I read the list because I just bought my new pistol and horrnady critical defense .40 cal S&W.. It's my first time buying a box.
I haven't shot this ammo yet, I just have it loaded in my two mags..
I am not sure if this is going to be my carry ammo or not. I use to use Remington jacketed hollow point.
A sales person was trying to sell me some Federal Tactical HST .cal so that is what brought me to this forum tonight..
I will be searching tonight for comparisons between the Hornady and the HST.
