Default Ammo for SW9VE

I have a S&W 9 VE pistol. I bought a box of Monarch 9mm Makarov 94gr rounds which were the only 9mm ammo avaiable at our local Academy Sports. I loaded a few rounds on top of the Winchester 9mm 115gr that were in the clip and when I chambered the round it jammed. I did get it out without damage to the gun.

Is this because I loaded on top of a longer bullet or does the Monarch rounds not work in my gun. They are about 1/8'' shorter than the Winchesters.

I thought about loading just the Monarch rounds by themselves in the clip to see if that worked but I'm afraid it will jam again.

Your thoughts.

ill put this simply

your gun is a 9mm LUGER. it can only fire 9mm LUGER rounds.

You put rounds meant for a MAKAROV. in your gun. thats why it jammed.

your putting the wrong caliber bullet into you gun. 9mm luger, and 9mm makarov are two different calibers and are NOT interchangeable

ONLY put 9mm LUGER bullets in :-)

I HIGHLY advise you go take a pistol course tomorrow.

What he said. You bought 9x18 Makarov ammo. Its ment for the Russian Makarov handgun. It has a shorter case but a wider bullet.

DO NOT SHOOT IT! The bullet is wider then the barrel.

You NEED 9x19 or 9mm Luger (same thing)

Thanks for the help. Especially the second response.

As for the first response. Ouch!

I have been shooting a Colt 380 and a Beretta 22 target pistol for years with no problems as far as ammo goes. I was unfamiliar with the 9mm variations so now I am enlightened by the expert.

The Russian 9x18 falls in between the 380 (9x17) and the 9mm (9x19) in terms of power.

haha Sorry about that. Sometimes a tiny bit of ouch is needed. 1st post I assumed you were a severe gun newbie haha

Would have been even more of an ouch if you had chambered and fired that round :-p.

Rule of thumb, if the markings on the gun doesnt match the markings on the bullet. Its gonna either not fit, jam up badly, or blow up on ya :-)

Stay safe and happy shooting :-D
