HOW POTENT IS YOUR AMMO - CALCULATOR
For years now I have been Chronographing various load and I have been using a pencil, paper and a calculator to determine the foot pounds of energy of each load. SILLY ME! I recently found a great on - line calculator that will do all the work for you. Click on the website below and just fill in the blanks. Don't forget to check off "Energy" on the top. Have fun......

I like to use simple momentum to compare loads: bullet weight x velocity. Energy calc is bullet weight x velocity squared which IMHO places too much emphasis on velocity. Various shooting sports with minimum power levels also generally use momentum, not energy.

Yes, I'd seen that link on other threads. Very nifty.

Energy Calculator
Guess it is time to repost this link to a calculator that has been online for many years.
Energy is not the whole story, and momentum is more related to penetration.
This same site also has several other calculators

Energy, Momentum or what ever............ this is just another way to QUICKLY compare loads of similar calibers from the same gun for purposes of comparison. As one who used to calculate "by hand" using a pencil, paper & calculator I simply wanted to pass along the info - not stating that it is LAW or an ABSOLUTE method - just in case some of you fellas are still calculating it the old fashioned way.
