The only way to know if it is good, i.e. accurate, in your gun(s) is to try it. It does work but a bit more expensive than run of the mill .22 LR as is all match/competition ammo.

Federal bulk is great stuff and their Gold Medal line is their match quality stuff so it should give excellent performance accuracy wise. I wouldn't call it bulk plinking ammo though.

Should be good stuff. Some of my guns are finicky about the standard blue-box Federal 40gr HV ammo - it doesn't feed that well in my MkII's, but is ok in 10/22s (rifles). I'd buy it if the price was good.

PSA had it for $2.99 a box(50 rounds) earlier today. I think it is usually $9.99

I have never used it.

Federal Gold Metal ammo is supposed to be the top like Federal ammo. I shot some of that rimfire ammo way back but I can't remember how good/bad it was. I'm guessing if it was terrible i would have remembered that. In reality, does it really matter when there is practically no .22 ammo available?

I saw that same ad but was concerned about the cheap cheap price. My first reaction was "OK, what's wrong with it?". I went over to MidwayUSA where they carry the same stuff. I read several of the reviews and backed off.

If it is their match ammo with the 711B product code it is very good
stuff. Federal had match ammo with the 711 product code on the boxes
and then brought out an improved version they identified as 711B. It
is the most accurate ammo in several of my sporter weight 22 rifles.

That is why I started the thread. Wondered why so cheap. I hope it is not too bad since I got 5 boxes before they sold out.

It did have the 711B code.

I bought 12 boxes of the 711B from my LGS and it won't cycle the slide on my M&P 22 or my Savage 64fxp rifle. It will fire but will NOT eject the spent case. I have to rack the slide to eject & load the next round on both guns. Did I get a bad batch??

No. The velocity of target or match 22 ammo varies quite a
bit between different manufacturers. I have chronographed a
lot of 22 ammo and target ammo from Federal, Aguia and CCI
run as much as 100 fps slower than some other brands like
Remington Target and Winchester T22s. It is very common for
standard semi auto rifles and pistols to fail to cycle some
brands of target velocity ammo. My Remington Nylon 66 auto
will just barely cycle Remington Target ammo but will not
work with Federal or CCI.

OK Thanks. I guess I will just have to buy a .22 revolver then. I also have 500 rounds of the Super Colibri that NOW states in the online ad that it is NOT for semi-auto's.

I bought a brick of 711B from Midway my auto pistols hate it and it is not even very accurate in my revolvers. I would not consider this stuff a match grade ammo. Some research on 22 rimfire forums suggest the same thing from the current 711B. Apparently older production 711B was a high quality accurate match ammo but the current run is not.

The non-coated lead is sticky on the feed ramp. I'm still working through a brick of Federal.. have to make sure everything is cleaned and polished, then it'll work for 8-10 mags before hanging up @ feed or failing to eject properly again.
Winchester Black and other coated types work much better in a semi.

But don't let me talk you out of the revolver... that'll even eat your shorts... 8)
