Overkill
Got my order of Buffalo Bore 9mm yesterday. Boxes look the size of 20 gauge bird shot. Huge foam block and the ammo looks lost in the bottom of the holes. Thought maybe a multi use pack but the end flap only lists the assorted 9mm they sell. Talk about a waste of material. Box could hold 243 win. no problem. Just for 20 9mm. Can't wait to pop a few off in the 9c....Wife just commented, $20 for the ammo and $3 for the box :-}

Stirophome (sp) with holes is cheaper then molded plastic for each particular caliber. They probably use one size for all handgun and a few rifle calibers and then another size for bigger calibers

In general you would probably be surprised to discover the percentage of any products price which is attributable to the packaging. For many bubble-packed items the packaging, inserts and documentation often costs more than the product contained within. This is why loose bulk packed items like bullets can be sold for significantly lower prices per unit that boxed product.
Arik is absolutely right that the about the relative price of box trays, even if he did mean styrofoam.

Holy box Batman. Just opened the 30-30 I got in the same shipment. They have a piece of soft foam between the bases of the shells and the top slip-on cover. The box itself is about 4-5 times as thick as the Winchester and federal ones I have. I hope they put as much into the ammo...

Don't have that problem with Georgia Arms ammo. 500 rounds shipped loose in .30 cal metal ammo can with about 5 or 6 of those plastic air bags most of which burst from handling. Rounds roll all over the place but no problems. Creates of mil surplus fit just right in the create tight fit and no movement.
Some companies over pack, some just right, some too little, shot in the dark.

Of all the ammo complaints, this is the best. The box is too big.

When folks are willing to fork over a buck fifty a round for 9 mm ammunition, they could have it hand packed by toga-wearing virgins into perfumed, gold plated chariot shaped vessels and still make a profit!

One size fits all (or most) so it's economical. At least as ridiculous as the boxes are the ammo is perfectly protected.

If all your product boxes are the same size, then all your external shipping containers can be the same size. This allows all your shipping pallets to be the same size, and every ammo case will contain the exact same quantity. I've seen BBs boxes, and they are big enough for even 50 S&W. Uniform packaging helps keep net costs down.

I'm sure Buffalo Bore ammo is good stuff but I just can't get past the cost. Their ammo is no better than my reloads, I'm sure of that! Also, the velocities they claim just can't be generated staying within SAAMI limits. In life and especially ammo you don't get anything for free. You want higher velocities you have to deal with higher pressures, that's that...

Must have been the same outfit that designed the Federal primer boxes.

Tim Sundles (owner of BB) swears that he does NOT exceed SAMMI spec's. and I personally do not own the equipment to verify his claims so I have to take him at his word. All I can say is that I have been a big fan of his ammo and have been using it for almost 4 years now with no ill effects through my M60, M65 and M19. What I can tell you is that the velocities and M/E he states on his site are DEAD-ON as that I CAN verify.
I have not heard or read of one single instance, lawsuit or complaint against his company or products so all I can think is that he is truthful in his stated specifications. The Country is law suite crazy now and if he was trying to pull the wool over our eyes I would believe that by now he would have been caught.
As far as price is concerned........ this is defense ammo to be shot on occasion (and hopefully never for real), so if you shot a box of 20 per year for familiarity ($25.00) I don't think that is an outlandish amount for superior ammunition for use in defending ones life.
If I could roll my own and duplicate his results I would, but haven't come close so far.
Just my .02 cents of course.......
