Hello, i recently purchased an old top break revolver chambered in 32. It was originally for blackpowder, after posting another thread on using smokeless loads, i have come to the conclusion that using 32 caliber(also referred to as 32 short) i am safe at avoiding a "blow up in my face" incident.

That being said, does anyone know a place i can find some reasonably priced 32 caliber ammo? i have checked budgunshop.com however they only have 32 longs...

If your revolver is indeed a black powder design, I wouldn't use modern powder in it. It's old enough to deserve retirement. Don't believe all you read on the internet. It's pretty easy to say "Go ahead, it will be all right" when you're not liable for what may happen.

Minimize the variables

If it says ".32 Short" on the gun, it might be some other make than Smith & Wesson. All S&Ws for that caliber would be marked as ".32 S&W" which is the proper name for the cartridge. The competing cartridge is termed ".32 Short Colt" and is not the same.

If you can find a box of modern smokeless loads in .32 S&W, use it. It is perfectly safe to do so. Those smokeless cartridges are lightly loaded to about the same chamber pressures and velocities of the old black powder loads. And don't believe anyone who talks about dangerous "Pressure Spikes" associated with smokeless loads. However there are other .32 cartridges than .32 S&W, but that's what top-break S&W revolvers will use.

I can find 32 S&W with at least some regularity around here. If nothing else, there are always several folks selling it(both old stock and new production) at the gun shows for $20-30 a box.

Call around to your area gun stores and at least one will probably have it in stock.

32 S&W long is a little bit easier to find in my experience, but neither is overly difficult.
