I have found that the "Smilie Face" from a well polished 4? hollow point makes a positive impression. The frequent response is, "Oops! I believe I made a mistake! Followed by a quick raising of the hands." Not sure - just sayin' .

For me, what makes it special is the original loading, now virtually duplicated by Buffalo Bore Ammunition. 158 grains at 1,500 fps. As a friend of mine says, "You don't have to get in front of it to figure out it just went off!" Get a long barrel Model 27 to get the full effect. It is a load of fun in a smaller gun as well.

Well it's also very handy to shoot a 357 and light your shooting buddies cigar at the same time.

Although they are falling out of favor and the techniques are becoming a lost art, with practice most folks can reload a revolver very quickly - in the dark, with their eyes still on the target, whatever.

Wow, I have been away from the Net for the past few days due to a camping trip. I certainly did not expect this topic to get so many responses as it was late and I had some gin highballs. However it is good to see I am not in the minority on the 357. The old article by Skeeter as well as things my granddad told me is what inspired me to start the topic. All I can add is that when things go bump in the night, a little .22 pistol or even 6 .38s make me second guess my carry choice, but my Combat Magnum loaded with .357 WW Silvertips make me feel more secure than anything. It is just some fellas my age think the .357 Smith went the way of the single action revolver years ago. I disagree.
