Who gives ammo discounts for spent casings?
I read somewhere about a ammo manuf. that gives discounts on purchases in exchange for spent casings (in batches of 500+).
Does anyone know who the company is, and how to ake advantage of that?

Georgia Arms gives you a discount. I used to turn my spent casings in to them at gun shows before I started reloading. GA Arms would pay you for lots of 100, I think.

Alternately, you could sell them here in the Classifieds.
You can fit 400 pieces of most handgun caliber brass in a small USPS Flat rate box and ship it for $5.80.
I charge $20 shipped, make a whopping $14 profit (for the time spent gathering, sorting, packing and making a trip to the P.O., I would do better flipping burgers), and the recipient gets a good deal, too.

The big reloading outfits have some type of exchange program. One price outright, less if you send in fired brass. Check out Zero, GA Arms, Atlanta Arms and many others.

If anyone has sent brass in to Freedom Munitions, how many pounds were you able to put in one of the 12x12 USPS shopping boxes? That's what their instructions say they require, and they are currently paying $2.50 / lb.
If it costs ~$15 to ship one of those boxes, I want to know if I'd be ahead to trade it in or get about $1.50 / lb locally at the scrap yard.
Thanks.

I just shipped a bunch of brass in to Freedom Munitions last month. I was able to get 30lbs of brass in a medium flat rate box. That's the size that ships for $12.45, and is 11"X 8.75"X 6". It was all .45acp, .40 and 9mm, and the box was stuffed. You should be able to fit about 50lbs in the 12 x 12 size box. My credit was $75 for the brass. I got 500 of the 115gr RN and 500 of the 124gr hollow points and ended up paying $248 and change for the ammo. That's counting the cost of shipping in the brass. I had my 1000 rounds of ammo within a week of shipping the brass.

Thanks, Jonesy. That's exactly the kind of into I was looking for. As long as you can get over 10-15 lbs in a box, you start making out. The math is fairly simple to do, but it all hinges on how much you can stuff in a box vs. shipping cost (and of course, checking what FM is paying for brass at that time).
Thanks!
