Default Is the ammo shortage coming to an end???

I have been finding ammo to be more available in my area
over the last few weeks. So much so, that when I see boxes of ammo, there isn't even a line of people standing at the counter (foaming at the mouth). At my lgs today they had a huge skid sitting out of blazer brass 9mm 115 grain for $14 per 50 rd box (still kinda high). Is ammo getting more easy to find in your area too???

All but .22 rimfire. That is still elusive.

Yep, getting better here. LGS/Range told me there are once again getting ammo in by pallets vs occasional cases.

I have a LGS that has a constant supply of all ammo. I bought 1800 rounds of .22 CCI in the ammo can for $170 and 100 rds of Winchester white box .40 for $37. He always has a cart of various brands of .223.

Prices have been pretty crazy around here of late, but today, I bought 100 rds. ea. of W-W and R-P .44 Spl. 246 RNL Factory for $20/box, w/o boxes. Buy it when you see it, boys, it won't be there when you come back.

Still nothing to speak of on the shelves around here, in the way of common calibers. People are still cleaning out the stores each time they get shipments.

This is what is known as the "calm before the storm" .
To quote a line from a movie.."you aint seen bad yet..but it's coming".
Right now, just about anything you want is on the shelf (except .22 LR)
This time next year we are expecting to pay about twice what retail is now , then a few months latter , no ammo will be available for sale to citizens , anywhere, at any price. At least that's what the general conclusion is from several "experts" that track political agendas and
world events . I sure hope they are wrong , Only thing to do is wait and see, and buy what you can , when you can .
It's better to have it and never need it, than to need it and not have it .

Two LGS' near me always have ammo. And one of them always and I mean always has 22LR.
Walmart on the other hand is almost always out of everything but 7mm.

You must believe everything you read on the internet. You're the panic buyer, you're the reason why there is no ammo for people to buy.

I see ammo more and more on the shelves for more than an hour at a time. Not sure the LGS has them for an entire week but I did see some on Saturday an know their delivery arrives on Wednesday.

Things are starting to look up

Down here in sunny South Florida it's variable from week to week... but overall I've been able to get just about anything I wanted. Prices have dropped a bit, and the folks who have been gouging the customers still have their high priced inventory on the shelf.

The two most difficult calibers to obtain are 9mm and .22 rimfire (either Short or Long Rifle). The 9mm is out there, but not always from my preferred manufacturers/loadings. The rimfire is USUALLY available at Bass Pro Shops and a few other places, with a one or two box per person limit. I seen many bricks of Winchester and/or CCI sitting behind the counter... they just break them up and sell by the box.

I haven't been to WalMart in quite a while, so I can't comment on what's going on there.

My ammo inventory is where I want it to be, so now I'm trying to focus on obtaining some additional magazines and proper holsters for my collection.

Best wishes everyone...

Locally I see it improving. Heck Bass Pro is the only one in this area still limiting qty. cabelas has shelves full n no limit on purchase of any calibers atm. New Gander MT was chocked full and Academy is full up as well and only limits .22 .223 and 9mm. Its improving and should be good for the foreseeable future. I still however pick up a box or two when I see it and toss it in the safe. Im pretty good as far as stock on .40 762x39 and .22 as well as 20ga for my shotty. However I'm working on .357 and 12ga now as I have recently added those calibers to my herd.

It doesnt spoil and I want to have a good supply (1500-2000 rds per caliber) on hand for comfort should it ever get to the SHTF point. I dont consider it hoarding I call it planning.

My Father in law reloads most of what we shoot but I still purchase what I can when I can. Since he lives 30 miles away I want my stock.

Local Gander Mountain in FL has recently put handgun ammo out from behind the counter for general comsumption.
Now if they would just get reloading components in stock we would be in shape.

I continue to buy regularly (not rabidly) when its available, avoiding the high priced for the new reasonably priced, likewise vowing never to be caught short again. (The better half pretty much ignores the indulgence after an afternoon of plinking with me ".. yeah, you're always wanting more bullets!..")

The pressure, agenda and combined interests of those who want to disarm the population are alive, well and just waiting for the next opportunity. They made tremendous progress in many states and hope to achieve their predatory goals as the older generations are replaced with youngsters who've been conditioned through the education system to think that only bad people use guns...

Never any .22lr ammo anywhere in my neck of the woods. Its a waste of time looking at Wally World anymore for any. They start selling ammo at 7 am each day. If any .22 comes in, its gone by 7:03 am by the same 10/15 guys that begin lining up at 5 am each and every time. If it wasn't for the ".22lr in stock" thread, I wouldn't have any.......PERIOD!

Yesterday I went to Walmart and happened to walk up as they were stocking the cabinet. I saw seven 325 rd. boxes of .22 lr and also 9mm mega pacs. Several 50 rd. boxes of various pistol calibers. I walked away for no more than 10 minutes to let him finish stocking. I came back and got the last two boxes of .22 by about 10 seconds over another person and a a mega pack of 9mm. Pure luck on my part and I almost screwed up by not standing right there. I am not hoarding but I think I will keep pecking away at a stash.

There is some available, but it's certainly not back to normal. One minor shock and here we go again.

The stores and shops in my area of PA are beginning to see some rifle and pistol ammo return to stock, unless you want .22 LR, .22 WMR, .38 Special or .30-30 WCF. My LGS received 50,000 rounds of Remington .22 LR last Monday. He limited people to 1,000 rounds each @ $35 per 500 round brick and the ammo was gone well before closing time! $35 per brick for some of the worst .22 LR ever produced! Before the current political climate, Thunderbolt was $15 per brick.

I wonder how many of the guys (who have no lives but to line up at WalMart at 5am) are grabbing up the .22LR by the multi-case at retail, then selling at the next gun show at double-plus the price? Yeah, that's capitalism............ but selfishness, lack of ethics, and disappearance fair play are a bit disappointing. (As in, yeah, I'll sell you this brick of .22's so you can take your son to the range........ for 65 dollars. What, you don't want to pay my price?? You are a pretty rotten father!) I take pains to patronize shops who ration what stock they have to give everyone a fair chance. Just my thoughts.

Default Much better stocks at the LGS

The ammo stocks look a lot better but the prices are not customer-friendly.

I can find anything but 22lr here. As someone said earlier, if it wasn't for the 22 ammo thread, I'd be up a creek.

Plenty of centerfire around here and prices are not greatly higher than pre panic. Rimfire at the large retailers is gone same day as stock is received but prices are not much more than a couple bucks higher per 500. Gun stores that keep rimfire in stock are 2x priced or higher.

My WM has just about anything you want, if you get lucky. I found 380 WW 100 packs, 22, 9mm 100 packs, and my son found 380 50 box...no limit.

I buy from WM, because it's a lot cheaper than buying from online and LGS's. My local gun store has about anything that you'd want. And, it's not too expensive. $20 for 9mm boxed 50's...etc.

Buying 380's is just about as hard as finding 22's.

So what you're saying is you don't want to get up in time to get the job done, you think a 3 box limit at Walmart is not sufficient at "rationing" the supply, and anyone who has something you don't is wrong. Nice way to set an example for that son!

Well up here in British Columbia we seem to have no problem finding ammo at some pretty good prices, I just baught some 9mm 124 gr.1200 pack bulk Combat master ammo TMJ 137 PF for $289.00. Can always find what I need , we are pretty fortunate here. I also found so American Eagle no problem a case of 1000 9mm 124 gr. FMJ for $279.00. here are a couple of photos of the 1200 I took the other day.

So that means YOU are there everyday to know that the same 10/15 people buy it everyday, or are you just parroting urban legend??? I've been buying mid-day at Walmart for months.

22 Bulk ammo is still hard to come by in CT. 9mm, 40S&W and 45acp show up in Walmart occasionally.

Around here Walmarts and Sportsman's Warehouse have most calibres. Like everyone else 22 and 9mm are the hardest to find. 9mm is starting to pop up more often and I almost fell over a while back when my local Walmart had 22 CCI packs. I didn't really want the fancy stuff and didn't get any, opted for 9mm instead. Kinda kicking myself now.

.40, .45, 5.56mm, 7.62x39mm, etc they have plenty of.

.38 is showing up again and .357 has made an appearance. Bought a box of Hornady 158gr XTP's so that I could have more on hand for my HP and the gf's 60.

Prices are approaching the old levels here. Things have gone up some but we are no longer at the "$35 for a box of .45 is okay" extremes. It's not $7.50 like ten years ago but it's not horrible either.

Still, I'm trying to slowly stock up again. Buy stuff when I see it for decent prices just a few boxes at a time, if I have the money to spend. It adds up.

Now I just need more 9mm, .45, and .357 self defence ammo. The good stuff has been hard to find for those.

Cabelas not only has a $20 off coupon ($100 pruchase) for their card holders but they have CCI SPP on sale for $29.99 and Winchester 525 .22 for $23.99 (also had 500 Thunderbolt $21.99, Winchester Wildcat 500 $24.99). .22LR is limited to one box per day I had to "find stuff" to break $100! Lot's of other ammo as well but more than what I pay at Walmart so I passed. Oh wait, I'm supposed to buy it and quintuple my money. I'll go back later I guess

On the way home I got Federal 9mm $22.47/100 at Walmart. PLEASE NOTE THE TIME, THESE PURCHASES HAPPENED IN THE LAST HOUR

Over the weekend I got Remington JHP .40 at $32.50/100 after lunch at Walmart!

We still have the one box limit at our WM but when there is a van load of people buying the same caliber, its gone in seconds. In order to buy .22 ammo from the Walmarts in my area, I would need a smart phone with the WM apps showing exactly what, when, and where the ammo is coming in............then line up before 5 am before the "regulars" get there.

One of the employees at a Walmart near me told me the same story, ammo goes out at 7:30,same bunch is lined up and they sell it to the all the little gun stores.Ive had much better luck finding 22 at Gander,Cabela's andBass pro either in person or on line at reasonable prices.

I'll cite the reports of a shooting at a Naval yard in D.C. this morning. I believe that'll hamper efforts to restock shelves as people will rightly foresee more government pushing for gun control.

You know....

A few years ago, Sears was having a "Black Friday" sale where they were selling snowblowers at half price. Minimum 4 per store and the doors opened at 5 AM. I got up at 4 and was in line behind three other guys waiting for them to open. I got the last one, drove home and went back to bed.

If the hardest thing I ever have to do in this life is to get up early to buy ammo, I'll consider myself pretty lucky!

I don't have the "advantage" that the bullit vultures have. I don't have a smart phone to show what, when and where. I can't be at WM every morning before 5 am just to look for something that may or may not be there. And I'm not buying a smart phone and all that s**t just to buy .22 ammo. On black friday, you know exactly what is on sale and when. You know you have to get there early or the stock will be depleted. And besides....Black Friday is one day out of the year. Buying ammo now is "high tech" in this area. I'm just thankful for the .22 ammo thread. That way I have a souce to buy it.

After todays Naval Yard shootings. I would think the ammo crisis is about to start again. No way the guy in the big house is going to let this one go unnoticed. "Never let a good tragedy go to waste". Its sad but its true.

I just put in my order on some more powders and primers, just because of this.

Ammo and primers are getting better here in Az. Powder and .22lr is still tight but I've seen it at a few walmarts for a brief moment. The resell roaches seem to feed on .22 rather quickly. Sadly the prices will probably stay high from now on..

This thread just seems like Deja Vu all over again!

I don't use any apps (besides, they're very unreliable), I don't wait in line, and I'm not there at the crack of anything to buy ammo like it was back in January. I do visit various Walmarts at various times of day and I have been VERY successful in getting ammo. The comments I've received from the employees are about all the people with attitudes storming in and demanding what the internet threads told them. They are tired of the disrespectful people who feel entitled to things making their lives miserable because they happen to be on duty in the sporting goods department. Their managers try to help and have put in place certain procedures to help reduce the distraction. I won't tell you about them as I've had to learn them by having a respectful dialog with these employees. I will tell you, having an attitude and believeing every little tale you hear as truth will not get you any ammo. That said, I just came home with 3000 rounds of .22LR from a local Walmart. Please check the time!

Now to the name calling, bullit (spelled bullet) vultures/hoarders/gougers/flippers/... This is just a signal of a person too angry with everyone else for succeeding where another hasn't. Just think if all that negative energy were put to productive use and problem solving!

About the time/effort of getting out and searching. If you don't think it valuable enough to invest the effort, that's a valid assessment. Don't then in the next sentence blame others willing to make the investment for your decision go without ammo.

Vultures? Your calling people vultures now. As one of those who has been standing in line at Academy in an effort to get ammo I find your statements offensive. Yes, I got caught short and instead of calling people names and crying like a baby like you, shil and others have done I did something about my lack of ammo. I got up and stood in line in hopes of getting ammo. Some days I got nothing and some days I hit the jackpot.

You see everyone was facing the same problem. Some like yourself took the path where you chose to whine about it, call people names and blame others for your failures. Those like myself decided to do something about it. Its 9 months later and your group is still whining whereas my group has ammo.

Hopefully you have learned a lesson from this experience but I'm not betting on it.

Actually no. Its been the constant whine from some attacking those who were in line at places like walmart, Academy or other retail outlets in hope of acquiring ammo. They blamed them for the lack of ammo regardless of the fact that virtually little ammo was coming in and purchase limits had been imposed.

Some nasty things have been said and directed at others whose only crime was trying to do something about the situation they found themselves in. The "whiners" took offense at people actually trying to solve their individual ammo situation. Their complaining didn't make sense months ago, it doesn't make sense today and will never make sense but here we are 9 months later and people are still calling others names and blaming others for their situation. Its time to stop this.

ladyT, I completely agree.

Some folks, most folks, are angry with the situation we find ourselves in. Some of us have accepted it and moved on - if we want ammunition, we are going to have to put out time, effort or money to get it.

Others are still thinking that a fella should be able to roll out of bed and either order ammo on-line or mosey over to the local What-Ever-Mart and get a box or six at their leisure.

And if they can't well, that ain't right and it has to be somebody's fault!

They see that what ammunition is available to them from their armchair is on the secondary market and the price is doubled. They don't like that either. And the cannot accept it.

All they want is for things to be the way they used to be.

It's called living in denial.

Things aren't the way they used to be -

And it's your fault!

From the perspective of an FFL, distributors are still basically sold out of the "white box" type of ammo (regardless of maker) that everyone wants for practice, so it, as well as the premium defense handgun ammo (Winchester PDX1, and similar from other companies) is still not available for anything but "back order" and wait.

I can say this, I noticed over the weekend that many defense handguns and a number of S&W AR type rifles (not the Sport, but the better ones like the M&P15X, etc.) that have been out of stock are back in at the distributors, and in a big way. Remington LE shotguns are also in, albeit in smaller quantities.

As one example, over 1,000 Glocks of various models in stock at RSR. If your dealer has been telling you the handgun you want is "not available," go in and pound on the table and tell them to get on the bloody phone before this round is "sold out."

Some M&Ps seemed to be available over the weekend, but in smaller quantities.

Rock Island 1911s are available again as are Berettas, some SIG Sauers, the Remington 1911s, etc. Walther PPXs and the P22s are available now as well.

So, it is better than it was, but supplies on this stuff will sell and it will get shipped to bigger dealers if the smaller dealers don't call their sales people why self-defense handguns are in stock.

I suggest that everyone who wanted stuff go and buy while you can. The issues and problems are not going away. Just a temporary lull.

Don't forget extra magazines for EVERYTHING.

Oh, and not because anyone is thinking in terms of complete societal breakdown, or anything like that, best to get a few cases of MREs or Freeze dried type food. Winter, and the obvious power outages will be here before you know it.

Don't forget to update your first aid kit to replenish bandages and other stuff used during the year. Send your wife after a couple of those big fat candles that last forever, stock up on some batteries, etc.

It is like needing a gun for self-defense. You hope you never do, but when you do is NEVER the right time to begin shopping, acquiring, training, etc.

Same for a little extra food, water, batteries, some long shelf-life food, etc.

And, yes - ammo. Forget about strange calibers. Concentrate on the following: 22 LR, .223, .30-30, .30-06 and .308. Get some 12 gauge - both 00 Buck or 4 Buck and some bird shot. Or the equivalent in 20 gauge if that is what you have. And some pistol defense ammo.

It is a pain in the butt, but "get it while you can." Did I mention magazines?
