Thumbs up

Good job!

I hate to pay a half dollar a round for ammo I used to shoot for a quarter a pop and burn 500 at a time.

BUT - it's that or do without I guess.

My Walmart got six of those boxes in. They had just put them in the case when I saw them. When I went back a week later, they were all gone.

Well 6 boxes can't be expected to last a week. I've see the same at my local walmart and Academy. I'm just happy they are there. What I need these days are 9mm,10mm ,40 S&W and 45acp. The prices though are a bit high especiall for 45acp. Its 50 cents a round before taxes and thats the WWB 100 count box. Eberything else is 55 cents ormore a round. At least I can still get 9mm for 29 cents a round. Don't like the prices and I hope they fall soon.

Here in my area of Texas most all of it is back n priced decently. Most stores have removed the limits on most cals except 22. I still snag what I can when I see it

If 223/5.56mm ammo is more than 20 cents a round I get nervous. At 25 cents a round I hit my limit. There is no 25 cents + 5.56mm ammo in my future no matter what!

If you are unwilling to pay 25 cents or more for 223/556 you might as well sell your firearm as it will never be that low again. Sad but true.

Unless you are reloading even steel case berdan primed is more than $0.25 a round.

Then I'll sell the AR-15 because I don't like it that much anyway. My Garand is just as good or better because it shoots a 30-06.

It's too bad everyone is so worried about themselves and grabbing all the ammo they can find at any price because that's what is allowing the prices to skyrocket. We have the power to stop the increases but no one is willing to stand strong. I guess it's just another symptom of the "ME" generation.

Reloading is the answer to most of the issues here. It ends the problem of high cost, availability, and bullet choice not to mention it's one of the most enjoyable hobbies I have ever indulged in.

The only benefit I see to reloading is crafting a round that operates best in one firearm. Otherwise at best its break-even. Cheaper only if you are still running on supplies from a long time ago. At todays prices for brass, bullets, powder and primers, that is if you can find them it may cost more than factory.

I disagree there too... Even at current prices handloaded ammo is much cheaper than factory ammo without a doubt.

Here is what I can load ammo for @ current component prices compared to factory ammo:

Primers $40/1000
Powder $32/lb
Cast bullets $35/500 .38 Special, $51/500 .45 Colt
Jacketed bullets Nosler 124gr JHP 9mm $38/250. Zero 124gr FMJ $110/1000

.38 Special Factory ammo
Remington LRN $25.49/50
Magtech LSWC $17.49/50
Winchester Cowboy $31.99/50
S&B WC Target $19.99/50
My reloads, 158gr LSWC $6.41/50 rounds

.45 Colt factory ammo
Remington Target $40.99/50
Fiocchi Cowboy $28.99/50
Magtech $32.99/50
My reloads, 250gr LRN $8.70/50

9mm factory ammo
Nosler 9mm 124gr factory ammo $18.99/50 rounds
Federal American Eagle FMJ $14.49/50
Magtech FMJ $12.99/50

My Nosler JHP bullet reloads $10.65/50 rounds
Zero FMJ $8.31/50 rounds

As you can seen from the above numbers even at current component numbers the savings is considerable and it's even more pronounced when loading match grade rifle ammo with premium bullets. Since I'm using bought before the shortage my real prices for reloads ar almost half of what I listed above but you were talking about current prices so that's what I used.

Hornady 168gr .308 match bullets $29/100
Sierra 168gr .308 match bullets $35/100
Hornady 30-06 Match Ammo $31.99/20 rounds
Federal Premium w/Sierra bullet $38.99/20 rounds

My reloads:
Hornady bullet $11.82/20 rounds
Sierra bullet $13.02/20 rounds

I don't know where you got those numbers but the cheapest Nosler I could find placed bullet cost before taxes or shipping @ 16 cents each, cases, Starline, were 15 cents so now we are at 31 cents and and we have yet to take in account HAZMAT fees and shipping for powder and primers, their cost, ones time, cost of equipment to load your own. Then we have to deal with the out of stock no backorder problem which means we really don't know what the prices will be until something shows up in stock. One thing for sure is they won't be cheaper.

The cheapest 45LC is 90 cents a round and 38 special is just impossible to come by and when it shows up its in the 44-45 cents a round range.

Bullet prices came from Midway USA and Missouri Bullets. Primer and powder prices are from local stores and would have been lower if I used online prices even with the Hazmat fees but I didn't want to use the lower prices because I wanted the true cost ow what it costs to load today. just because you can't find the same prices doesn't mean I'm not telling the truth. Look at the powder and primer prices on Powder Valley and you will see I used very high prices in my workup.

It's obvious you decided you are correct and nothing anyone will say can change your mind. Everything I listed above is at the top end of the price scale and reloading, even at current component prices does afford you a considerable savings.
