Default Where to get reduced power loads for competition?

Ok, so I havent gotten reloading equipment.....yet. But I was curious if there was any lower power factory stuff out there designed for competition shooters and reduced recoil? Specifically in 38/357.

The usual question "What kind of competition?"
Many require full power loads in .38, or even +P.

NRA Bullseye: wadcutters
IDPA: recently lowered to allow most commercial regular .38 of 130gr or more. Had to use +P before
USPSA: +P 158gr .38 for minor. .357 158gr for major.
ICORE: most commercial 158gr .38

Well to tell you the truth the competition thing with these guns is still new to me (as far as format and regulation is concerned) I have a local club that puts on uspsa stuff, and thats where I wanted to start participating in. So youre saying none of the uspsa guys shoot handloads that are made to reduce recoil?

Welcome to USPSA.org - Home of the United States Practical Shooting Association
The USPSA rules, which I suggest you read on the USPSA website, particularly Appendix C2, provides for major and minor power. The power factor is calculated by multiplying bullet wieght in grains X speed in fps divided by 1000 and truncated. PF 165 is major, and PF 125 is minor. Less than 125 is "no score."

Most use heavier bullets to avoid having to go to high speed. Power Factor is actually MOMENTUM in odd units, while ENERGY (proportiional to speed squared) is more related to recoil.
In .38, a 158gr bullet at 792fps makes minor power.
In .357, a 158gr bullet must go 1045 fps to make major power.
Either is legal in Revolver Division.

There is also Production Division, which is scored minor only, where .38 can be used.

Having worked the chrono check at many matches, I have found people who cheat (or try to) on these rules. If your local club never has a chrono check, that tends to let cheater loads get by.
