This ammo shoots just as accurately in my wife's 638-3 as in this 642-1. Maybe better, actually.

Admittedly, she might be a better shot, especially using her single action mode.

In any event, with either gun this round delivers better accuracy than the 130 grain FMJ ammo we have tried from Fiocchi, Prvi Partizan, and Remington.

Surprisingly, the recoil of this 125 grain +P JHP ammo from Federal does not seem to be any greater.

That's a good thing.

At the range, this ammo is fun to shoot because of the accuracy and the nice round holes in paper targets.

For carry purposes, we have a few boxes of Federal Nyclad 125 grain normal pressure JHP that is also accurate in both J-frames and shoots to POI. So, I wasn't planning to carry this particular round.

But, a couple shots into water jugs today have me thinking about it.

A second picture showing earlier Nyclad water jug results was added below for comparison.

Based on what I have read on the Internet, the Nyclad round is one of the better carry choices.

Yeah, I read it on the Internet, so it must be true.

That Nyclad photo is certainly impressive. Not sure if I believe in water-jug simulations, but barring shooting into animal carcasses that & wet-pack are probably about the most realistic things we can do.

That is my thinking too, sir. The water jug "tests" just help me feel better about the bullet velocity developed by the individual pistol in my pocket.

There are lots of more elaborate tests of the Nyclad round itself on the Internet. They seem favorable. I have not found any tests of the Federal 38E JHP.

Admittedly, we bought the Federal 38E for $350 per thousand (delivered) as range ammo. With prices falling, that still seems like a good bargain.

Yes, I know, reloading is king. But, I barely have enough patience to reload for our Garand.

I still like the 158 grain LSWCHP also called the FBI load.
The heavier projectile penetrates more and soft lead expands fine. even if there were no expansion and the flat HP fills up and is not in effect an HP it will still be effective in reaching vitals to stop an attacker.
There are some good videos on youtube as well as some not so good if you look.

I hear that! Thank you, sir. If the two J-frames in our family were intended for serious social work, I would probably be right there with you.

As it is, they fill a different niche for us . . . light recoiling, fun to shoot, pocket guns. They are mostly carried around the house or in our quiet neighborhood instead of a .380 ACP toy semi-automatic pistol.

We do own and carry one of several heaver hitters when out and about more widely.
