Default AE38K. Federal 130gr .38 fmj

Listed at 890 fps at the muzzle. Probably a four inch bbl. anyone know the velocity from a snub? Trying to see how close it resembles my defensive load/Speer 135gr short bbl

I haven't chrono'ed it, but a quick google search for "130 FMJ chrono" turns up someone on this site that clocked it at about 770fps from a 442.

Probably a good practice load. 135 Speer GDHP SB clocks at 850fps from my 1.875" barrel.

I got some of this at a LGS for practice ammo. It's pretty mild and POI is very close to the 148-gr wadcutters I usually use. Seems decent enough and the price was reasonable.

You're comparing radishes with cucumbers.

The Speer 135 grain Short Bbl. load is a JHP. The other is a FMJ military-style . It is a notoriously poor stopper on humans.
It probably compares well to the .38 Long Colt load that failed so miserably in the Phillipines about 1900.

The Speer load performs quite well, judging from what feedback we've seen from both NYPD and LAPD, who issue it for the few remaining .38 revolvers still in use with those agencies.

Bullet weight is just one aspect of design. Comparable weight DOES NOT mean comparable construction!

To the OP: Lawman stock no. 53757 is the "official" practice version of the Speer 135 gr. GDSB load if you are fortunate to come across it.

You do realize from the context that he's looking for an inexpensive practice load with a similar POA/POI relationship rather than a replacement, right?
