Rimfire ammo available for backorder at Midway...
Checking out Midway this evening, I see that they are willing to accept backorders for various .22 ammo brands, at what are -- for today -- reasonable prices. You are limited to one each of any given item.
Not everything is available on backorder, but there are some good buys: a brick of Remington Thunderbolt for $20.99, for example.
I placed an order, and my selections are due in by the end of November.
Perhaps this is a sign that some of the shortages and extreme prices we've been seeing are easing.

Some Brands of .22LR available for backorder
Hey Beemerguy53, just curious as to the shipping charges attached to that "Brick" of ammo, is the total price still in line?

I paid $37 for 5 - 100 round boxes of Mini Mag HP's + $13 for shipping, total $50 or $10 per box of 100 delivered, about 50¢ a box more than I paid before the panic.
Solids are even cheaper.

Thanks, Beemerguy! The nice thing about this "1 to a customer" deal is that 1 CASE is ok, too.

The total for the ammo was $96.97 and the shipping was quoted as $16.42, for a total cost of $113.39.
I bought a 1000 round case of Winchester M-22 for $49.99; a brick of Remington Thunderbolt for $20.99; and a 555-round bulk pack of Winchester 36-grain copper-plated hollowpoints for $25.99...a good deal overall, IMHO! :-)

I agree, a pretty fair deal!
Appreciate the insight as to the cost of the ammunition and the charges for its transportation, looks to be approaching some sort of sanity.

Midway has some high shipping. About 6 mos. ago, they notified me that they had received some Remington 148 gr. WC, limit one box of 50 per customer. I ordered the max. one box and 5 boxes of .30 RAR. Got the usual email that order was processed, etc. Shipping and handling was $19.00. I thought high, but OK. The next day, I received an email that the .30 RAR was BO'ed and would be shipped in a week. I didn't really pay that much attention to the email. Got the box of .38 Special WC's and shipping & handling was $19.00. I thought OK BO's --no shipping. Got the .30 RAR 2 days later and they had charged me another $19.00 shipping and handling. Called them and never was able to reach any kind of resolution. I don't buy from Midway any more.

I ran into the same situation and I have learned to work around it. Usually, back orders are the only time this comes up. Now that you know how they work (and it can be argued either way) you can make the best decision.
If you are not in a hurry for some particular item, you could add it to your wish list and wait for the notification that your back ordered item is available. If you are in a bigger hurry than that, then you now know how it works.
They are currently taking back orders for Mini mags and no one else in the free world is doing that so I'm trying to help you both out.

Thats bad policy and one reason I've given up on them until things settle out and that may not be for another year or two.

Went to the MidwayUSA site. Saw that they were accepting backorders for a 5000 round case of CCI MiniMags for $312. Limit of 1 case. I added it to my shopping cart, checked out the estimated shipping, it was $20, not too bad. Then I looked at the date expected ... OCTOBER of 2014??? I emptied my shopping cart and left.
