The 22 ammo will rarely hit the shelf
Academy receives 22LR ammo several times a week but it will rarely if ever hit the shelves. With that said, it is easy to get but requires a bit of time and effort on your part.
Here's the trick for Academy:
You have to find out which days your particular store gets its ammo shipments and then be there waiting when the store opens. (FWIW, there are usually 5-20 people waiting outside most stores when the doors open and the line starts forming about 30 minutes ahead of the posted opening.)
The shipments always vary. Some days they get 50 or 100rd boxes and some days they get 525 or 1000 rd bulk packs. It is completely "luck of the draw" brand-wise and quantities are very limited. My store passes out numbers for the quantity of boxes they have received for that day. If you get a number you will get ammo, otherwise you will have to come back for the next shipment. Most days the 22LR is gone within 5-10 minutes so you must be in line waiting before the store opens.
Finally, due to the rationing 22LR ammo is always kept behind the gun counter so you'll have to ask a clerk for assistance.
One final helpful hint: The store will limit the number of boxes each person can buy so take another person with you.
Hope that helps!

$2.50 a box?
Folks around here (rural eastern Kentucky) would be ALL OVER it, regardless of brand!

Here its been at least 2 months same w/ Wally World--oh and last time I saw 9mm 50 and 100 rd boxes--Dec 4th. However, I see .45 everywhere even sometimes in 250 rd boxes.

Thanks for the info and especially the pics. Lots of people reference being able to purchase 22lr but the specifics are usually hard to come by. This picture has price and shows actual ammo on the shelf even if there is a limit. Thanks again for the info.

Yes, our local Academy is getting .22LR, but it's sporatic.
And they keep changing the limit per customer rules.
But it's there for the early birds.
