Sportsman's Guide Cancelled Order
I've had an order for .22 Long Rifle ammo backordered with Sportsman's Guide for almost a year and just received an e-mail cancelling the order. No offer of any kind to order in stock ammo or priority on future deliveries. And these people charge a membership fee for preferred treatment and prices. Won't be doing business with them in the near future.

It does happen just about everywhere. Curious if you have the paid membership? If you do, it would be nice if they tried to do something for you.

I have had some 9mm and 10mm ammo on back order from them for over a year now. Every time the estimated arrival date gets near, they send me an e-mail extending the expected arrival date. They give me the choice at that time to keep it on BO, or to cancel.
Right now, the ETA for both items is mid March. Ordered them Jan and Feb 2013. I used a free shipping coupon on one of them. Hope they still honor that when and if the ammo ever comes in.

Not quite sure if you can actually consider having only Remington Sub Sonic as actually having ammunition in stock.

Last I checked with Cabela's they limited orders to one box per day. A box of 50 just doesn't do it for me. Oh, add shipping and it ain't cheap!

You placed an order in good faith. They accepted in good faith-they just couldn't fulfill it,just the same as many other sellers out there.Obviously, they don't know what the future holds with regard to deliveries,so why make a promise to you? They exist to make money, not to disappoint you....forget about it.It is, what it is.

I had some issues with Sportsman's Club a year ago regarding an order they wouldn't honor. I renewed my membership, ordered ammo, and have experienced the same kind of substandard service as described by the OP and others. I just received an e-mail notice from them that my membership has expired, but wait...I can still take advantage of their great offer. Not this time! We're done.

sg ammo sales
I order from Sportsmans Guide when they offer a code for free shipping. Golden Sabre 40 S&W 165gr 25 count for around $17.95. You have to be careful which catalog entry you pick because ordering larger amounts are not always cheaper per round. I have seen 7.62x54r range from $88 to $97 a can depending on what catalog I am sent.(best price in military surplus catalog)

I feel your pain dude! I don't mean to sound like wise guy or anything but for myself I learned a long time ago not to put anything on back order. If its not in stock I don't order it. Now with that out of the way I must admit there is one outfit that I will do a backorder with and that's Star Line brass, if they say they will have it by such a date, I get it a few days before (so far) that date. Now, how's that for a I voted for it before I was against it statement!

I have been given a few Sportsmans Guide catalogs by some guys I work with. I look through them and don't see anything that I can't get cheaper somewhere else! And why would I pay $30/year for a membership? Even at the 10% discount you're supposed to get, I can still buy cheaper and usually with less or free shipping.
Sorry, but SG won't be getting any business from me any time soon!

I went to SG's store, not really any deals on 9mm ammo over anywhere else. I'm seeing a few deals on armslist w/ people that are more negotiable.

13 Month back-order cancelled today by SG
Yeah, I had similar experience today as OP ... ordered .22LR CCI Jan 2013, lived through about six suspended ship dates through the year, most recently last month (newest ETA was June '14), and now, big Gary suddenly feels it's time to give up the ghost on his suppliers and cancel my back-order. I was never charged for it, so it's just a slap & dump move on their part--I was perfectly willing to accept a reasonable price change offer, or even a partial shipment even months from now, but no, just dumped. They consciously cut off back-order offer shortly after I got mine in, so I just don't understand the mentality to betray a customer who has waited. Irks me enough that I'm done with them.

Hmm... Strange.
Several Months ago (Aug? Sept?) I received my usual sale email from SG, which featured 50 round boxes of 22LR, I hopped online, they were available, I ordered 10 boxes and they arrived about a week later.
Obviously, the 22LR they had must not have been the same Brand/Style you guys had on BO, but I did get what I ordered (as always).
As others mentioned, I will not BO any ammunition online, as there is no way any company can guarantee when they MIGHT get more in. I did BO some factory 10 round 10/22 mags once, just to see if SG would actually notify me and honor the price... and they did. By that time though, I had found some 25 round mags and got those instead.
SG doesn't have a LOT of stuff I'm interested in, which is the main reason I never went for their Membership plan... and sometimes WM's price on the same item will be better, but every once in a while, SG will have exactly what I want, for the (Non-Member) price I'm willing to pay (with shipping) and I'll pounce.
Oh well...

You had a backorder for a year and are upset they finally cancelled it? I would have cancelled a backorder long before that. Obviously they knew they had not chance to fill it in the reasonable future.
