Default 10mm Light Loads

I know the high pressure super sonic 10mm rounds are quite loud, especially at an indoor range. I am looking into taking my CC permit class soon and I was wondering if those light, sub sonic 10mm rounds(i.e. the ones loaded to .40SW velocities) would be a better idea, to keep the noise on par with nines and .40s that most other guys will be using. Anyone think this would work, or all 10mm rounds just that loud?

I don't know about LA, but in Oklahoma, and 2 other states I'm familiar with, use of reloaded ammunition in state-required CC classes is prohibited.

Second problem: If you are using a semi auto pistol in 10mm, it is easy to load down to .40 S&W, but then the pistol may not operate properly without changing to a lighter recoil spring. Please don't show up at class with a gun that does not work 100%.

As an instructor, I appreciate people who bring a gun/ factory ammo combination that they routinely use and can shoot through the required course without fumbling and malfunctions. I wonder at people who don't have a clue how to load or hold their gun, and can't shoot 5 shots in a row without jamming; this is for self-defense?

Regarding noise: proper hearing protection is required, for any pistol. For an indoor range, I use plugs and Pro Ears muffs, because indoor ranges bounce the sound back.

Oh I mean factory ammo, that will function in my gun. I just know that the FBI load 10mm runs at about what the .40S&W runs at. Subsonic, and with less blast and noise than the full house 10mm loads. While I always wear hearing protection, I have gotten criticism in the past for shooting .357 Magnum in an indoor range.

Default 10mm

I have a glock 10 mm, and I bought a lone wolf 40 cal barrel for it and it shoots factory and my lead bullet reloads fine, with the original recoil spring and 10 mm mag.

I have two 10MM pistols.

The Federal 180 grain Ball ammo and the Blazer Aluminum 200 grain Ball ammo should do what you want.

The both run about 1050 FPS out of my guns.

Well, when running a carry class, I have gotten complaints about most everything at one time or another, and my usual solution is to put the complainer aside and give them individual attention when everyone else has qualified. I wonder privately how someone who cannot deal with the noise and stress of shooting qualification is going to manage a real shootout, but my job is to help them get qualified if possible, and perhaps suggest additional training. I do not tolerate a student complaining directly to another student or trying to give instructions to another in a cc class.

Thanks fellas. My LGS carries a lot of Armscor 10mm FMJ. Looks like good light ammo as well. I will probably use Blazer, PP, or Hydra Shok for the CC class. Those loads are very tame considering its a 10mm round.

You will probably find a great deal more 10mm running at 40 S&W velocity than Original 10mm velocity.
I ran a pretty good selection over a chronograph about 20 years ago. Most of it had been toned down so it would not trash out the S&W's and Delta's at that time. The Glock 21 has no issues eating warmer ammo.

I ran some 155 Remington that the 10mm load was slower than the 40 S&W load.
