Default Any alternatives for a 18-4

I have an 18-4. It is labeled for and takes .22 long rifle ammo. I was wondering if it can shoot any of the other types of .22 ammo. I would think .22 short would be no problem. But what about .22 win mag or any others?

Also, what is sub-sonic ammo? Is that just ammo with primer and no powder?

Thanks for helping me with my understanding of .22 ammo. This is my first .22 pistol.

22 magnum is too long to fit.It will take shorts, longs and long rifle.Subsonic is an awful term that can mean anything below the speed of sound,so anything from colibris to standard velocity apply though you should be able to use the primer only ammo in it.

If you are going to shoot a variety of 22 ammo in a session, start with the lr first, and the shorts last. All ammo leaves a residue in the cylinders, and by shooting the lr first, it will be easier to insert & eject.

All of the above are correct. The subsonic loads are designed to not break the speed of sound ~1,150 fsp. This is meant to keep the projectile from creating a sonic boom (pop) while in flight, which lowers sound levels for suppressed weapons in particular. The feeding of LR, L, S designations for guns fed by box magazines are the big issue. My Ruger MK-II will fire .22 Shorts if I single feed them into the chamber, but will jam if I were to load the magazine with Shorts.
