Angry Banning of Russian 5.45x39mm is officially confirmed by ATF

Test, Examination and Classification of 7N6 5.45x39 Ammunition | ATF

Test, Examination and Classification of 7N6 5.45x39 Ammunition

On March 5, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) received a request from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency (CBP) to conduct a test, examination and classification of Russian-made 7N6 5.45x39 ammunition for purposes of determining whether it is considered “armor piercing ammunition” as defined by the Gun Control Act (GCA), as amended. Since 1986, the GCA has prohibited the importation of armor piercing ammunition unless it is destined for government use or testing. The imported ammunition about which CBP was inquiring was not destined for either excepted purpose.

I personally don't care about these ammo, but the real intention here is not AP, it is banning, I think more Russian ammo will be banned soon!

Note that BATF is NOT banning the importation of 5.45x39mm ammo. The ruling applies only to rounds containing a steel penetrator. This is nothing new; they have previously banned the import of AP rounds in 7.62x39mm and other calibers.

You are saying that Russian manufacturer still can export as long as they use lead core for the projectile? (steel case)? I douby Obama will alow that, they use this an excuse to ban Russian ammo, once they get this done, they will use similar excuses to ban other type of ammo, eventually ban all import ammo (even the Swiss-made 9mm has steel in the bi-metal projectile).
Just wait for them to ban all lead ammo importation, then ban the use of lead in any commercial products (except lead-acid battery).

The goal is to disarm, nothing else!

I use Us and West european ammo!

What he is saying is nothing has changed. Take off your conspiracy glasses and look around. Despite all the internet rumors (i.e. Homeland security purchase) we the consumers are responsible for all the shortages and high prices. We the shooters and reloaders are buying everything we can. I saw bricks of 22 at a gun show last weekend for $90. Hopefully by this time next year he will have to be taking those price tags off and replace them with something more reasonable since no one was buying any. I don't care for Obama one bit but I don't blame him for any of these problems.

ATF approved the importation of a "pistol" chambered in 5.45.

Then they used the fact that there was a "pistol" available in 5.45 as an excuse to label it as armor piercing and ban it's import.

Now wasn't that convenient?

ATF just took another extremely affordable round off the market and out of the hands of Americans using an extremely questionable tactic.

Can't outlaw the guns, go after the ammo.

If it were me I'd be angry at the guy who altered the rifle and made it into the pistol to fire the stuff. He was sitting on a huge stash of Russian ammo and saw an opportunity to make out like a fat rat selling it before the ban. He damn well knew the ramifications...

Well there is nothing to buy so there is no problem. Well I did get two 100 count boxes of Winchester Super X this morning. I also picked up a case of Winchester NATO 9mm 124gr this morning.
