Quite the way to end a shooting session !!

My kids and I picked up a few cans of it a year or two back. After shooting the first one, my boy turned to me and asked if I was sure they were legal. You could literally feel the ground shake from 100 yards away.

I had(past tense) a dead tree (2’ in diameter) at the extreme right of my home shooting range. It had a hole that my adult kids packed what they said were 5 LBs of Tannerite and shot at it from a safe distance. Like you said an extremely loud concussive noise and the sides blew right out of that tree and after a little sagging over it fell right to the ground.

Brought my nearest neighbor over to see if my house was still standing. He is a shooter also and got a good laugh out of the event

I have a feeling if Mr. Safe Act, Governor Cuomo or his ban everything buddies knew about that product it would be on the verboten list.

A few years ago the phone rang. A church member invited me to drive out to the farm as he thought I would like to shoot his new .17Hornady caliber rifle. Upon arrival I noticed the usual suspects standing around w/ grins on their faces and ear plugs in their ears. I was asked to shoot a couple of 20 oz. drink bottles standing at the bottom of a field. I of course obliged them. Upon the first short there was a loud bang accompanied by a nice flash and smoke... lots of smoke. I had expected something along those lines. Working the bolt I swung the sights over to the next bottle which got the same treatment which had been given to the first bottle. Don't know how much of the T stuff was in the bottle, but it was fun watching it go bang! They told me that earlier that week they'd put a pile of the T stuff in a 2 liter bottle and set it off. Apparently someone got concerned b/c the sheriff paid them a little visit. That T stuff is lots of fun!

They are trying to ban it here locally because some idiot exploded 30 pounds of the stuff here in October. My place is almost all the way across town from where the idiot detonated the stuff--which is several miles. I heard the explosion and felt a tremble and wondered what the heck happened? I was watching the local evening news at the time.

Stump removal was my first thought when we shot the first one.

I've used it a few times. Last time was 1/4 pound each loaded into the back of a clay pigeon with tape holding it in and that was placed behind a photo of a Creeper ( a creature in a video game that explodes in the game ). One of then was attached to the front of a scrap of drywall. Only trouble was I need to do a better job of zeroing my rifles. Had to get within about 25 yards to hit the targets which is a bit close and I did feel a small but of something hit my face (with eyes and ears on) no injury or even a mark.
Last time out I was able to hit the target from about 50 yards away but I think we were doing half a pound per that time.
Been meaning to pick up some of the Rimfire stuff.

2016 isnt here yet. Give em time, they are probably typing up the paperwork as we talk about it here on the forum.

Can`t have fun with it here in Ohio. They`ll nail you with a felony (class 4 I think). All kinds of stupid laws in this state.

It sounds like fun except that some idiot is BOUND to 'prank' somebody with too much in too close, thus ruining the fun for everybody else.

My friend and I took a pound out to the range we shoot at (a no longer used logging road) and set up at about 20 yards. He told me it had to be hit with a bullet at 2200 fps, so we kept it close since at the time my highest velocity firearm was my .30-30 Model 94, and we weren't sure it would even set it off. I used a handloaded 150 gr. flat point with 3031, and I don't have a chrono, but the book said 1900 fps. Not a screamer by any means. Well, it worked! BOOM!! Scared the heck out of us!

I'd play with it again, however I don't care enough to shell out any cash to do so.

At the end of the shooting season my local Gander Mountain actually has the stuff on sale so I bought some. The "kit" came with 6X 1/2lb targets and 2X 1lb targets. (I bought 2 kits!) I can't wait to take some out this season and "play" a little.

I hate to be the negative guy here, but in some states it is illegal. In Ohio, it can and will be charged under ORC 2923.17 (A) Unlawful possession of dangerous ordnance. Tannerite falls under the definition of "Explosive device" which means any device designed or specially adapted to cause physical harm to persons or property by means of an explosion, and consisting of an explosive substance or agency and a means to detonate it. "Explosive device" includes without limitation any bomb, any explosive demolition device, any blasting cap or detonator containing an explosive charge, and any pressure vessel that has been knowingly tampered with or arranged so as to explode.

I am not being the crazy prude that's saying don't do it, I am just warning everyone that if it isn't illegal yet, it will be... so be careful out there my friends!

One local shop had some in 1lb containers. Jokingly I said if you hear about a large explosion out my way you can also figure I'll be getting a visit from the sherrif. We are out in the sticks but some folks got no idea on how to have fun. We have these folks in real fancy homes down the road and sometimes it sounds like a war is going on. Just a usual day on the bayou. Frank

The 1st shot at our machine gun shoot 2 years ago was a 5 gallon bucket full under the wheel well of a Honda at 100 yards.

I see/hear people shooting it all the time here in TX and for the life of me I fail to see the thrill. However, a fool & his money............

Face facts...there's always gonna be some yahoo who's gonna misuse any product, especially one that goes boom.

Tannerite is already illegal in some states, and if it hasn't been already, its use will soon be banned on all U.S. Forest Service administered lands...it won't matter if it's an "abandoned" logging road or not.

Far as I'm concerned, it's a (dangerous) gimmick for people who are easily amused, people who want to be on You Tube to show the world how stupid they can be. How long before some yokel duct tapes some of the stuff to a can of gasoline and starts a thousands-of-acres forest fire with it? That ought to go over great in California or Colorado. Like little kids, some people have no sense.

I'm really surprised the BATFE hasn't stepped in to regulate or ban the stuff already.

And did we mention the potential for its use as a terrorist device? How about 50 pounds of the stuff hidden in a piece of school playground equipment and detonated by a sharpshooter with a silenced .308 or something?

Having disagreements with your neighbor? Gander Mountain will sell you enough Tannerite to solve that problem.

The possibilities are almost limitless.

I am amazed this stuff is legal. I would be willing to wager that if you tried to make your own and bought some ingredients you would soon find yourself on the radar of Homeland Security and the BATF.
We can't buy firecrackers or sparklers but we can buy pounds of explosives. WOW, just WOW.

Everything you've said here is the same argument used by those who don't like guns and just as applicable. Shall we ban everything that has the potential for misuse? Most people just have fun with tannerite. Yep, there are morons out there with tannerite. Morons have guns, drive cars, ride 150 hp motorcycles, use power tools, and jump from bridges (see the news from Twin Falls, Id this morning.) I don't particularly want the world restricted in an attempt to make it moron-proof, but I am aware there are plenty of people that see it differently.
