Default Blazer 38 Spl +P

This has probably been asked and discussed before. But I would like opinions and experiences from anyone who uses or has used this ammo.

I bought some yesterday at Wally World. Is has aircraft aluminum cases and is not reloadable. I bought it because it was pretty cheap and I thought it would make good practice ammo for my .357s. But, then I got to thinking about the aluminum cases and wondered about the safety.

I don't shoot a "lot" but do go to the range a few times a year just to maintain skills. So, anyone use this ammo that can share valid opinions?

Thanks,
Bob

It's great stuff. Just not reload-able .

Pretty clean, hot. It's CCI primers . I've used it in many many calibers and it works flawlessly.

It is perfectly safe.... the aluminum is at least as strong as brass, just less malleable (hence it will crack if you try to resize it for reloading). I use 45 ACP blazer aluminum when shooting matches, or when I have friends that want to shoot, and I don't want to have to be persnickety about my brass.... its good stuff for a good price.

Perfectly functional for range and plinking. The stuff I used was a touch dirty but no big deal.

One of our OK competitors shot 50,000 rounds of Blazer aluminum ammo the year he made Master. He said it was good as any.

Re: OP. Briefly... simply excellent ammunition. Been firing it in my revolvers since the year it was brought to the market. Results have always been sterling! Also usually less expensive that brass cased ammunition. Excellent ammo and less expensive. Cool!

The 158gr jacketed +P .38 Blazer is excellent ammo which has performed well for me. The Blazer 158gr LRN is another story and has caused jamming in some of my revolvers.

My SD40 VE fires .40 S&W Blazer ammo flawlessly. I don't reload, so I don't spend extra on brass. If I find brass on sale cheaper than Blazer, then that's another story. As long as Blazer has been available, I'd say if there ever were any major issues, they've all been worked out...

L8R,
Matt

I think the aluminum blazer has been around for about 30 years. It is pretty well tested.

I recall the aluminum-cased Blazer first coming on the market. The plan was for it to be SIGNIFICANTLY less expensive than brass cased ammo. It was, for a short time. Within 2-3 years, it was almost the same cost.

In my area, and at the shop where I work, it's the same price now, as dealer cost is the same as brass case ammo.

One thing I learned the hard way was not to use it in 45ACP moonclips. It just did not want to come out. Seriously. I broke a demooning tool I had bought from Dillon's (I think - it was a long time ago). I called them and they replaced it, whatever company it was. The rep seemed to think I must be some huge ape to have broken the tool. Never had any trouble other than that, with either moon clips or Blazer ammo.
