Whats the difference (except the price) between these two?
Hokay, I was at Wally World again today--and ambled over to the ammo counter expecting to still see almost bare shelves with the left-overs still there. To quote Gomer Pyle: Surprise Surprise Surprise - YouTube
they had all kinds of bulk packs cept the usual two calibers.
That said--they had 100 rd packs of 45--Winchester and Federal. My question is this: Besides the price--whats the difference? The Winchester was about $49 incl tax, the Fed was about $30 incl tax. They had the same grain and such. Im hoping that Fed aint reloads?

Federal is actually my preferred loading. If it's all 230 ball ammo there isn't much difference (except price).

I like Federal better.
Seems to shoot a little cleaner.

I prefer the Federal brass over Winchester for reloading. Remington brass is a distant 3rd.

My place also has more ammo than I have seen in awhile.
But no 22.

I like the almost 1/2 price than Winchester for 100-so ill be buying those from now on and especially based on how yall feel on it. One 100 rd box near = to one 50 round box of Winchester. They also had 250 rd boxes too--but I couldnt justify spending that much--at least yet.

But seriously, if they have one of those 250 rd boxes still in May? im buying one.

I haven't really shot enough of either to have a strong opinion. I have shot both & both worked fine enough for range fodder.
But... in my area we've seen a lot of Federal with small primers. Not an issue, function wise, but the air has turned blue around many reloaders when they come across the small primer .45.

I actually prefer the R-P for loading .452" lead bullets. The thinner brass seems to work better. I'll trade ya straight up a few hunnert Winchester/Federal for your R-P.

BRAND NAME recognition. You pay for the Winchester name.
(assuming they are the same weight and type of Bullet)
Just as in reloading powder Winchester 231 and HP 38 (Hodgdon) are the exact same powders but Winchester is more per pound. But are distrubuted by Hodgdon Powder Company.

Thats what I was wondering since they are the same but not in manufacturer name. If the cheaper stuff is as good as the other? well, in that caliber-Winchester will lose out. Ive yet to see much in Fed 9mm. I THINK I might have a box??
Im too lazy to unlock the box and unload the stash to check.

If the Winchester you are seeing is "White Box" then it is nothing great at all. It's just basic target or range ammo. The Federal is also, but I would pick the Federal.
If you are talking expensive SD ammo, there are many variates even within the same brand.

I forgot about the small-primer issue. I don't use SP .45 brass. I would definitely take Winchester LP over Federal SP.
RP brass is used only in my revolver. No setback issue there.

I don't know about that. I just did my taxes and feeding "Federal" sure seemed to cost a lot...

It is White Box. In fact, I dont think ive seen anything else from Winchester here? If they also do those expensive 20 rd boxes? I ignore them immediately. Once I get this little mess corrected about the Kindle I just bought? I think ill nab another box this afternoon. :-)

I haven't seen any in a very long time but I always had good luck with the Remington UMC ammo in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 acp. It was clean and consistant. Anybody finding any of that lately?

Federal sells multiple types of 230gr 45acp ammo for different prices. Walmart sells type WM52331.
This was discussed at length some time ago at
230 gr Federal 45's from Walmart?

As far as shooting the small pistol primer in the 45 ACP make no difference. If reloading and you do not have them culled out, then things get jammed up.
Most of the small primer stuff is lead free and or frangible.
Heck when the 357 Mag was first introduced it had a LARGE primer.

(SLAP) I need a V-8, I forgot to stop by Walmart to see if they still had any? I know yesterday they had 3-4 boxes of that UMC--250 rounds.

The Remington UMC 250 rd. multipaks in 9mm, .40 and .45 have began to show up around here in the last several months at Academy, Walmart, and GM. Shoots clean in my guns.
