Default It looks like rimfire ammo has setteled at 8 cents a round ...

... for me anyway.

I debated whether or not to start another .22 thread, but I wanted to share what has become the common price to pay in my area.
Bass Pro, Cabelas and a few gun shops in the southern Indiana and northern Kentucky have had 22 ammo consistently and even with the limits still in place, you can find enough to shoot again.
That's good news.
I'd visited the "ammo in stock" thread here on the forum and bought rimfire ammo from Target Sports USA and Midway on two occasions.
It's the most expensive 22 ammo I've ever bought at $47 (including shipping) for a 325 box of Federal. The CCI's were about the same price but it was a brick of 500.

I don't want to start a " I ain't gonna' pay more than .3 cents a round " argument. If that's what it comes back at in your neck of the woods, good on ya'. I'd like to hear that it did, It would make me optimistic that prices may go down from where they are now in my area.
But anyway I'm glad it's back, with regularity and even with a limit. At under a dime a round if it settled there and is always in stock I'm glad it's found it's level at what I consider reasonable.
I even hit it lucky twice and found Federal 525 at Bass Pro at .5 cents a round. I picked up a 1000 rnd count of Winchester for $53 last month at the same store.

I know there are still scalpers and I hope bad karma bites them in the ***, but if daily shipments continue to show up and the limits go away in the near future, the light at the end of the tunnel can shine on an end to high prices and bare shelves.

Until the next time ...

GF

Golden Bullets are making their way through Walmarts around the country.. Around me they run $11.17 for a 225 pack which is 4.9 cents a round. Cheap and it always goes bang in my M&P.

I'm not sure where in Indiana you are, but a quick check on brassbadger.com tells me that .22 was in stock within the last five days in: Clinton, Spencer, Crawfordsville, Terre Haute, St. Princeton, Boonville, Newburgh, and Evansville.

Most of those were golden bullets with some Winchester thrown in. All were 5 cents a round. Bookmark brassbadger.com and check it every night. Once you see it pop up there, call the store in the morning and see if they've put it out.

It looks like stores around me will have it tomorrow, which is good since I am almost out of golden bullets.

Wow!! The Brassbadger is great. It shows that there has been no .22 ammo available in the two Walmarts closest to where I live in over 4 months. Actually, it has been over two years since I saw any 22RF available. The had a box of 22 RF magnum about a year ago, and there was a couple of boxes of 22 snakeshot shortly after Christmas, but that is all in over two years. We must be blessed, or something.

In south-central PA I have been seeing some hit the shelves in a few places. Recently picked up two bricks of 500 CCI Standard Velocity for $33.00 each at a local gun shop. Walmart has not had any availability locally as it seems the employees are hogging it up. Gun show prices are between $50. and $80. but I do not see them selling at that price. I am happy to see it on the shelf occasionally as it has been somewhat unobtainable in my area for over a year. Prior to the shortage a brick was always available for $15. to $20.

A few places around here sporadically have .22lr but only in 50 count boxes, it's been four months since I've seen a brick and that store wanted $110 for it. Then again I'm not one of those folks that has the time to spend all day driving around from Wallmart to Wallmart buying it all up either. Since last week Dick's has had some out back but said they're not putting it out for sale until the 20th(and then only two boxes of 40), must be some big doo-daa going on.

Of course we have those on the local forums that are retired/unemployed(more lucrative than working it would seem) and cruise the stores all day to flip it at easily twice the cost. I've even seen folks so hard up they were buying Thunderbolt at .16¢ a round about 5-6 weeks ago.

Wal Martians scare me, I hear that it's contagious , I won't go near one of those places. My son goes there so when I need my bi-annual oil change I have him buy Rotella for me, but I disinfect the bottle before I touch it.

Only if....

I don't shoot much bulk pack, but the HV bulk junk ammo I have bought from the Ammo Thread has been Rem GB and Win M22 from Cabela's. All of it has been around $30/brick delivered. Just a straight purchase of it, no combination with other stuff or coupons... just the ammo. For 6 cents delivered to my home it's hardly worthy running around confirming Walmart doesn't have any.

Most all the shooting I do with CCI SV, Wolf Match and and Aguila Match was never at Walmart anyway. And anyone who did carry it locally was higher priced than I could buy online.

I would agree that it has more or less settled in @ the 8 cent a round for CCI Mini Mag 22lr and 22lr HP, Federal automatch is running 5.5 cents a round, Blazer 22lr is in the 4 cents a round neighborhood, CCI Green Tag & CCI Pistol Match @ 16cents & Win. M-22 @ 5 cents a round. CCI 22mag is going for $42.99/200. These are Academy prices.

As i started in this sport less then 2 years ago, same time .22 was going nuts (yeah i know, good timing on my part lol); I've been happy with my purchases in that .05-.08 range. I figured if the chain places are selling it at those prices they would be the new norm. I wont pay someone a marked up price, but as I'm not like many here who have been shooting for years i cant say what it's like to pay even lower prices either.

Perhaps it's like a young driver buying gas these days, who just starts driving when it's 3-4 bucks a gallon. Us "more mature" folk can recall gas well below a buck a gal, but that doesnt help us now.

I remember when $5 would fill up my gas tank and a loaf of bread was $0.29.

We all need to set our personal limits on what we are willing to pay for .22 ammo. But I'm glad to see that prices are stabilizing below $0.08/round.

In 1968 I got a brick of Federal .22lr for $5.90. The "inflation calculator" shows about $41 today, 8 cents/rd. Anything under that is golden. Joe

I bought 2 bricks of Yellow Jackets 2 weeks ago for $48 each. Never thought I would do that but it is my favorite round and I haven't seen it in forever. First .22 ammo I have bought in 3 or so years.

Here in Northern Indiana (Mishawaka) the big store has CCI ,Federal, Winchester all in stock, and all 10 cents a round. No limits on how much you can buy. More money than I will spend, but it is in stock all the time. This has been this way for 10-12 weeks now. I will wail till the fed 525 blue box is $25 or less before I think about buying. I have about 6 bricks till then, some time this fall. Things are stabilizing fast. BiggB

It cost me $100 to take the wife out to dinner and a movie. The movie sucked and I suffered indigestion. I bought 2k rounds of Win M22 for that same $100 which will bring many hours of enjoyment. The relative cost of rimfire is still a great bargain as far as I'm concerned.

I stopped at the LGS the other day and they had some sort of CCI .22's on the shelf. A box of 50 for $8.99,, $90 a brick,, I don't think so..

Picked up a flat (250 rds.) of 12ga trap loads for $55 seemed like a much better deal..

I went back a couple days later and all the 22's were gone. Guess some one is willing to pay that price.
