Default 40 cal. S&W bullet weight

I find factory manufactures of loaded ammo with a bullet weight, (40 cal. S&W) range of: 125-200 grs. My question, why so many?

Default That sounds about right...

That sounds about right for a .40 cal bullet. I don't understand the 'why so many' question. 'Why so many' what??

Default Bullets Weights

Well, everyone likes to have choices..... For myself, in the .40 S & W, I like a heavier bullet and I always go for the 180 grain JHP....really, the 180 Speer God Dot JHP........

Choices

Different projectiles have different purposes.

Different folks like different things

The 500S&W can be found loaded with projectiles from 275 grains to 725 grains. Jacketed, plated or lead. Solids or hollow points.

I agree with Colt saa different uses. Most likely you will find the 120 will be frangible, I will go with anything 155 or heavier for SD. Depending on what is available at the time. I really prefer 180 but, you can't find it all the time.

Other factors are - perceived consumer needs/wants, law enforcement contracting and ammo company marketing ("we sell the lightest-fastest-heaviest-highest energy .40 S & W rounds!") It's good all around to have all the choices.
