Speer 38 Spl light bullets for SD ?
Is Speer against light bullet for SD loads in the 38 special ?
I have looked for 38 special ammo with their 110gr Gold Dot
bullet and can't find anything in the loaded ammo sections.
I can find the larger 125gr bullet in their ammo in standard
and +P loadings ..................
but no ammo seller list the smaller 110gr bullet in any type of loading.

Hornaday makes a Critical Defense Ammo 38 Special 110 Grain FTX. It's not a plus P.

Like any business, Speer manufactures what sells and 110gr .38 spl apparently doesn't sell as loaded ammo as well as 125, 135 and up.
As mentioned, Hornady sells 110gr FTX in both standard and +P loadings.
Remington sells .38 spl 110gr +P HTP (High Terminal Performance) ammo.
Like all ammo, certain loadings come and go from the shelves as production runs are made. Its not like milk and other consumer goods that are in constant supply.
Saw this today when in Cabela's. Should be able to order it from them. Picture isn't too good, was using a old flip phone.

Remington once had(1970s'/1980s') a 38special short barrel load.
Their 357mag 125 SJHP load used to be what everything else was compared to.
I've loaded the 95 SJHP in 357 to attain extreme velocities.

IMO and only IMO the reason there is currently no 110gr loaded Speer .38 Special +P ammo in the stores, the shortage. Companies have to concentrate on the most popular ammo first which is the 125gr ammo. When and if things get back to normal you will see everything on the shelves again. (I hope)

Yeah it seems like the 110 grain stuff is harder to find.
In the end however, Speer's Gold Dot Short barrel 135 grain .38 Special +P load performs very nicely not only from snub nose barrel lengths, but also from 4" service revolvers. In fact the NYPD issues this load not only for the guys who use snubs as BUG/off-duty guns, but it is also the load issued to the older guys who still carry Model 10s as there service handgun.

CorBon makes a 110 gr 38 Special loads that uses the Sierra 110 gr bullet.
I have used this bullet on varmints and it works well. That would be my choice in 110 gr loads. Havent seen any Gold Dot 110 gr factory loads for the 38 Special. Speer says the 110 gr Gold Dot is made special for the 38 Special and is too fragile for the 357 Magnum. Could be a good one if you want to handload that weight.

If memory serves me.....
If memory serves me right, one used to be able to buy 110 gr +p loaded ammo especially when S&W had a brand of ammo. I think a second reason is that was in the days of the rule 'low mass-high velocity' had prevailed, which, in practice didn't pan out in the real world. Nowadays, it doesn't have enough customers to justify keeping it on the shelves. In fact, these days, it's hard to find a variety of anything, just the biggest sellers.

Thanks for all the replies.............
I was hoping to try out the factory Speer 110gr load.
I reloaded the Sierra #8300 110gr Jhp bullet with Red Dot in
a 38 case and in my J frame snub nose at around 880 fps at
ten feet, it went through three milk jugs and kept on going......
so I am guessing that it did not expand to well ?
Sure wished I had put four water jugs up, now. I had no idea
that little bullet at that low speed would penetrate that much.
Back to the drawing board.
