Default Federal Auto Match .22's

I have been seeing some available at fair (for these days) prices. I was wondering how it compares with the typical bulk .22 ammo available?

Most of my .22's are not fussy, and I like to save the good stuff for serious target shooting. Just looking to restock up on some cheap, reliable plinking ammo for the semi's.

I have had generally good luck with it. Checked my log, and through my Sig/GSG 1911-22 I've fired a little over 1400 rounds, with less than 20 FTF, all fired on a second try.

I've run right around 600 rounds through my 15-22 and another 200 rounds or so through a variety of auto-loading pistols and haven't had a single failure to date.

As is so commonly the case with .22s, where each individualy gun may have decided preferences, the accuracy of this ammo has run the gamut from excellent to mediocre.

The Fed. Auto-Match .22 LR round has given me excellent results in my 18-3. About four years ago I was firing a box or more of this load each week in my 18-3. Accuracy was simply outstanding both at normal pistol range and right on out to rifle range, i.e., the other side of a farm pond. I have never had a single issues with this ammunition when fired in my 18-3, a Ruger Mk. II and a Ruger 77-22. With the rifle groups were under an inch at 50 yds. firing from a good solid rest. I buy this ammo anytime I see it for sale unless the price is simply outrageous. YMMV. Sincerely. brucev.

I found these to be very reliable and accurate in a variety of guns - until The Great Twenty-Two Drought hit. At that time, I believe Federal started doing something different with the brass, as a couple of my guns that had been utterly reliable with these A-Ms no longer were so (brass would swell and not reliably extract). Other friends here locally reported experiencing the same.

I haven't bought the stuff for a while (and I still have several of the older boxes which should be fine), so I can't remark on what the new stuff is like these days.

I buy all I can find, as it runs great in my M&P 22 pistol (full-size). Accurate, and no mis-fires in many hundreds of rounds.

I was lucky enough to find this ammo online today at a large big box store. I'm afraid to mention the name for fear of getting my hand slapped by a mod.

The A-M is far more reliable than most other bulk offerings in my particular 10/22 TD, tied with CCI Blazer.

OK, like I figured, results vary with the user...Common to .22 rimfires. I'll pick up a brick, grab a bunch of .22's, and hit the range and see how my guns like it. If it works well, stock up.

Thanks for the replies.

In the past two years I have used quite a bit of it, no problems, I just ordered three brick's from Midway for 16.29/ brick.

I got the same deal from Midway. Still waiting for the UPS guy to arrive.
Always had good luch with these in all my auto loaders. Better than most bulk .22 ammo in my opinion.

i've been seeing this ammo more available lately as well both in store and online. Always worked well in my Buckmark and my old Colt Challenger as far as firing, and accuracy has been fine for me (taking into account i only go to indoor ranges now with shorter distances) so if i see a box i'll grab it for more range time

I find it to be a very accurate round and quite reliable in just about every 22 I own.

Federal .22 ammo in general is very high quality stuff. I can not remember having a Dud with the Blue box line, the Auto Match or for that matter the American Eagle either. Almost the same equality as CCI and FAR ABOVE Remington & Winchester .22's

My Sig 226 .22 conversion is fussy about what it is fed, the only two brands it likes is CCI Mini's and Federal auto match. I have tried every other brand, some better than others but none as good as the two I mentioned, I actually have an over supply of LR's in my cabinet now

I jumped online to see pricing and availability of the Federal and not surprisingly found none available at decent prices. Midway and Cabela's were sold out. However some sites wanted as much as $55.00 for 325 bulk box.

I think the American Eagle is the best 22's on the market, I have three 22's and they love them, around here they are harder to find than CCI.

Other than the packaging, Federal Blue Box is the identical product as American Eagle - straight from the "Horses Mouth". The American Eagle is their promo line, but is the same in a different box. ALL GOOD STUFF - getting it is the difficult part!

Default Fed 22 auto

I saw a pile of this couple hours ago. Believe 325 rounds per box and $19.99.
Seemed high to me and I have an adequate supply so I passed.

Default Auto Match ammo...

I buy it whenever I find it. Have been using it for years and have not had ANY trouble with it at all in a variety of pistols, including some that have a rep for being picky. Also used it in bolt and auto loading rifles. Good for squirrels back when I still could see to shoot them.

Good reliable and accurate .22 LR.

I didn't know that, I have two can's of the blue that I picked up last summer, because they were in a sealed can, I put them away, I guess I will have to shoot them. One day at the range last summer I met a guy there that I have never seen there before, anyway we got to shooting the bull and when it was time to leave he said wait a minute, I have something for you, he went to his car and came back with two box's of Federal Untramatch and said try these, I never did get around to trying them.

This is the favorite ammo of my AC556 with Ciener conversion... Never a FTF in full auto

All of Federal or CCI have been good for me. The AutoM is comparable to federal bulk 525 packs. It was more $ before the drought per round than Federal bulk so I haven't shot as much of it until lately. Seems like it is easier to find than most other fed or cci ammo for some reason.
