Default Seems ammo has made a come back

Went to the range this morning, first time in about 3 or 4 week due to either cold or rain. We have 4 shooting ranges. One is 25 yds for people practicing their up close defensive gun procedures. A 100 yd for the long shooters and 2 - 50 yd ranges. One for rifles, big stuff, and the other for pistols and small caliber rifles. I always go to the pistol range but visit the 50 yd rifle range for brass because it is the busiest and the others if no one is there and time allows. This morning I pick up 14 pounds of brass, mostly 223. I actually left brass, got tire on bending over and picking it up. I don't know what the other ranges had to offer, I was done. Picked up about a half pound or so at the pistol range which is normal. Obviously I get there early. There have been days I have only picked maybe 15 pieces of brass. I see ammo in the catalogs but it ain't cheap. I guess some folks have bucks to burn.
I need to stop picking this stuff up, I have enough. I think it is a sickness because I just can't stop myself.

Picking up brass can be a sickness. I have been to ranges where people dive after just fired brass like chickens chasing a June bug. I had to tell them to leave my brass alone.

Folk don't do that in Nevada, they know better.

Man, my range is the absolute worst for finding brass. There are some hard core old timers that must have been raised by vultures, as there is nothing to pick.

Plus, a lot of the shooters that I see are also reloaders, too. We need some more yuppie members so we can get their leftover brass!

I wanted to be able to shoot cheap and readily available .22's...So, I got a Crossman .22 air pistol. It takes some effort between each shot to pump it up but ammo is no problem...yet...I see very little .22 rimfire ammo around here and what I do see is way more than I want to spend...I reload and bullets, brass and primers are to be found but handgun powder isn't. So, my muzzleloaders and percussion revolvers are getting lots of use...If worse comes to worse, I find that Triple Seven works pretty well in my .44 Spl/Mag and .45 Colt revolvers and rifles.

I pick up my own brass both rifle and handgun. I have a griper pickup my brass. when at the rifle range and I see brass I can use I pick it up and put in my bar. Then I sweep up all the brass on the floor and dump in the brass in the collection can. A lot ofcan normally can normally the 233 brass is steel and the club separates all brass and sells it to support the club.

In the outside pistol range there is more lose brass and most of it is steel. Inside pistol range all brass gets swept up my the shooter. If I am there with other shooters when I am done shooting I will ask for cease fire and it someone is shooting the same caliber as me I ask if they want their brass. all my bass is reloaded and has a stainless primer so if they want their brass I can dig their brass out.

My LGS has consistently had ammo including 22 LR at pre-crazy prices for customers who buy firearms.

It takes me 7 or 8 trips to Dick's to score one Brick of .22's - and at ridiculous prices at that! Most times I walk out empty handed.....

Still not finding .38 Special ammo around here. It seems to sell out as soon as it hits the shelves at Wal-Mart.

I have my 'brass pickin up' merit badge. I agree with another member...finding brass at the range is half the fun of shooting, especially if it is somebody else's brass that they left.

Lets discuss statements about 22 Ammo bought at less than gun show prices. Ya'all need to light a few candles. That's all I'm thinkin.

I do like the 22 air gun thing though. I have a nice German 22 air rifle. What have I been thinking??? Or to be more precise, not thinking.

Well with all this talk of ammo becoming more available on the shelves has my bunfoozled. I went in wally world week before Christmas and got the last WW value pack 40 shorty ammo that they had. Then back again shopping for food. If anything the shelves were even more emptyier than they were the previous week.
So as far as I see it one of three things are going on
1. maybe ammo dept people saving the ammo and selling it on the side
2. maybe truck delivers less ammo
3. or the gremlins who get up at 5 am to stand in line to buy ammo
4. Or a combination of all three.

I was at Academy this morning to order a new pair of walking shoes and vetured by the ammo counter.I had called earlier and was told by the guy they had several varieties of .22 for sale--several name brands mentioned. I got there-there were plenty of .22 available--but ALL were rat shot and match grade stuff. The match grade--in 50 rd boxes--were $10 per. They had some other stuff slightly cheaper--but nothing I can use so--left empty-handed. I was told that Dicks has been getting in large amounts of 100 packs of the mini-mag stuff--at $10 per pack as many as you can buy.

I was also told that the bulk packs arrive maybe twice a month now. Im chalking this new story up as yet another BS story.

Here in Western Arizona .22's are scarce and expensive when you find them. 380's, .38's, 9mm & .45's show up now and then and are gone the next day.

I reload 9mm, .38spl and 45's...I just used up my last Pistol powder today and there is none to be found anywhere around here, including Midway and Bass Pro or other online sources. Pistol powder has been unavailable now for almost a year....beginning to believe there IS a conspiracy against reloaders.........

Even though this is the new normal, I'm not sure I'm ready for .22 @ $.10/rd. Joe
