Nice score. You never know what you'll find at a garage sale.

Did you ask if he had any guns for sale?

I bought 4 full cartons(500 rounds each) of Randfeuerpatronen(Germany) 22cal L R Pistol Match Special, 10 full boxes of Winchester 40S&W Bonded Personal Protection , 2 powered head sets and 6 spare magazines for a Springfield 40 S&W** pistol at a garage sale awhile back. I'm not putting the price here because I hate to see grown men cry.
** The pistol was gone.

Count your blessings...

ONLY the magazines would be legal to buy in NY if less than 10 rounds.

You could not buy or sell the ammo legally or the gun without going to a licensed dealer.

Did you just stumble on it or did you have some reason to believe such would be for sale?

That is my kinda garage sale. I'd just like to find one that had even a little shooting stuff. The dream sale is where you pick up a box full of ...empty S&W boxes !

Anybody ever been that lucky?

You've got to keep your eyes open and your mind sharp!

Over the years I've been very lucky at my ammo purchases. We've got this huge garage sale that runs from Covington, KY to Gasden, AL each year. It runs thru hundreds of mile of farm country, but also probably a hundred small cities and suburbs. About 1990 a buddy and I were driving north and made a jog over to 127. About Frankfort, KY. I managed to pick up a Beretta 22 short (with a broken firing pin) and some other stuff. So we started asking, not leaving things to chance.

It turns out people like selling old stuff they've got lying around. Up here a little I started buying 22 caliber ammo. My preference was the 1950s vintage nickel plated Winchester and Western brands. I just liked the stamping on the base of each shell. So tiny but with great detail. So I've been buying it ever since.

The best deal on ammo was at a city wide yard sale right up here in the midst of civilization. Youngest son and I were driving/hiking it. In the back of one house we'd seen some ammo on a table. It was one of those houses with the garage under it and a turnaround area in the back. I bought 17 boxes of 32 ACP and the ammo can for just over $100. That was in 2009 or 2010. We also picked up a blue race car baby bed. Had to drive the jeep home and come back with the wife's mini van to haul it home.

The only score on S&W boxes was a buddy giving me them. He was a gun nut, a cop. And he'd buy a cool gun whenever he saw one. Then many trade it off later when he lost interest. All 1970s. He got married in 1980 and that stuff ended. But as he was moving out of the apartment, he called me to come over. Turns out he had a big box about half full of S&W boxes. Blue ones and grey ones. It was before my interest in gun boxes matured. But of course I took them and brought them home. If only to see what he'd been buying without my knowledge. About the 2nd box I pulled out rattled! So I set about pulling out all kinds of cleaning kits. I did call him to ask if he wanted them back. He said no. Yes, I've still got them. I gave all the boxes to a gun shop that wanted them.

So a rule of life you guys need to pick up and follow. When you see a yard or garage sale (I have no idea what the distinction is) you slow down and look. If there's anything "guy" related, you find a parking spot. And you look. But if there's anything to indicate the man of the house had "guy" type hobbies, you ask about sporting goods, guns, or fishing stuff. You'll strike out more often than not. But if only one a year you hit pay dirt, it was worth the effort.

Whenever I see an estate sale advertised, I go. Usually the old guy passed and he hadn't gone hunting or fishing in over a decade. But there are a lot of older guys (like me and Charlie Sherrill) who had an interest. Some times a widow is very insecure about guns and gun stuff. But if you're nice and kind of comfort her (not like that pervert Shugart would do), she'll open up. Just be cool and don't rob her of her treasures. Pay a fair price as you see it. Many women don't even like guns in the house and prefer them being gone. Same for ammo.

I was headin home from the deer lease.
My buddy called early this am and needed help with a
trapped hog.
On my way back I spot the sale. What caught my eye was
an old cast iron dutch oven.
By the time I turned around and parked a dude walked by carrying
the oven.
So.....as long as I'm there I asked the age old question.
"Any old guns or Knives" ?
All the guns have been given to family members but still had
the ammo. Done deal.
This was found under the .22 ammo....

PMC 22 LR. I found a couple of partial bricks in one of my ammo cans that I purchased in the late 80's. In my 22 LR they shoot tighter groups than some ELY target I have.

Might want to test fire some before you just plink it.

Thumbs up

Nice score! I'm jealous.

I bought lots of PMC .22LR ammo back in the early 90s. It was always very good stuff.

The best stuff around here are from displaced CA people who spend a lot in REI stores (tree hugger supply store) thinking they are going get closer to nature. Then realization hits (rainy weather) and they fire sale their stuff.

And how does that fit with "Shall Not Infringe?"

You get the government you deserve. Vote for different representatives, that failing move to another state like I did.

Nice pick up, a 6 pack of Bud would be nice for your bud.

Sam Colt made all men equal, it appears it can work in trades too.

Enjoy the S&W.

Well, he lives in Arizona, NOT New York, so why even bring this up? Arizona happens to be one of the FREE United States!

And for that (living in Arizona) I am eternally grateful. I moved here from Illinois 20 years ago so I had 1st hand experience as to what living in an oppressive state is like.
