Old Winchester Ammo
I have an old box of Winchester 38 S & W C. F. ammo. There are 49 rounds in it. On the box it states "Manufactured Expressly for Smith and Wesson .38 Caliber Revolver by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. The box is showing it's age but isn't real bad. I am unable to post pics. I could email pics if someone would like to see the box.
Does this ammo have any collector value or is it junk that show be discarded properly? I do not collect old ammo but if someone does I can appreciate that. Thx.

Almost all old ammo is collectible to some extent and many do indeed collect it. As with anything else, condition is what's important.

Quite a few people collect older ammo, and can get pretty excited when it is found in the original box. Condition determines value, as with just about anything else.
Like some collectors I like to have boxes of period-correct ammo for display with some of my old guns. You are on the S&W Forum so I'm pretty sure there will be some collectors of the early S&W revolvers interested in your find.

I'm not a collector but please don't dispose of that ammo. Even if it's not worth a lot of money it's very cool...

Dollar-wise it doesn't have a ton of value. The point is that it's cool and like all cool things there are people who collect them. I had a number of 60 to 80 year old boxes of ammo at one time. I simply gave them to a collector who displays them with other, similar items, in his LGS.

Thx for the responses guys. I know the dollar value of the ammo is not great. Hopefully I can work something out with a member who really appreciates it and fits into their collection.

Also, in particular, ammo that is no longer made can be considered valuable. An example is this full box of .35 S&W ammo made for the S&W Model 1913. I'd currently value the box and cartridges, still intact since October of 1913, at around $250.

Put up a WTS thread in the classified section and I'm sure it won't last very long.
