Default .38spl Nyclad, what to do?

I have a box of Federal .38spl 125gr. jhp Nyclad (2 tone gold/blue box) code of P38M. I'm guessin early 90s.

Is there any reason to hold on to the 30 remaining rounds or should I just shoot them at the range?

That round is generally regarded to good carry ammunition. Rather than waste it plinking at the range, you might either keep it for its intended purpose or offer it to someone else who will use it for carry purposes. Just a suggestion, of course.

This the performance you can expect from a 1 7/8" J-frame into water jugs.

I agree it's good carry ammo especially for those who own older J frame revolvers and want to use a standard pressure round but still be sure it will expand. It has no collector value but it's more than plinking ammo. I'm hoarding a little over 4 boxes of the stuff right now.

The brass makes good reloads.
I had several boxes once.
I think I still have a couple somewhere.

AS YOU CAN SEE, S&W Fan, THIS IS GOOD SD /HD AMMO. ITS TOO NICE TO MERELY SHOOT AT A RANGE. USE IT FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE, OR PASS IT ON TO SOMEONE WHO WILL…………….

On Embassy Duty in the 90s, we carried the same bullet, except in +P trim in our Department of State issue S&W Model 19-5s. Accurate bullet with lot of potential out of a 4-inch tube.

The std pressure stuff is good too. I wish Federal would reintroduce it again in +P.

I picked up two boxes of +P 158 LSWC Nyclads last summer at my LGS. Only two boxes he had at the time. They looked like new production. I haven't seen the 125 in quite awhile.

Thanks for the feedback, it'll go in the 642 and speed strips for it.

I bought a box of it on Gunbroker a few months ago, had a manufacture date of 2010 on the side. I keep my eyes open for it. It's whats in my usual carry, a Colt Cobra. It's light recoil in a 16 oz pistol and proven performance make it the round of choice for an alloy framed Cobra.

Yes I know this is the S&W forum but there's just something about that little horsey on the side of a snubby.

Default If you ask me.....

I think a hollow point SWC with the new coatings would do the same thing as the Nyclads. They were kind of ahead of their time.

That would be nice! I have a small, but adequate, supply for my own use but it would be good if others could be similarly quipped. Unfortunately, I have not found any available since my initial purchase.

For me, these normal pressure hollow points expand reliably when fired from my 642-1. They seem to be very accurate, shooting to point of aim at the relatively short distances where I have tried them.

I don't shoot them very often because I also have a nice stash of Federal 125 SJHP for practice that seem to match their performance. Life is good!
