CCI Shotshell ?
I have 2 boxes of CCI Shotshells marked 38 / 357. I understand you can shoot 38's in a 357 but not the other way around.
My question is, can these be used in a revolver marked 38spl ? (Ie. SW 649) or just in something marked 357 ?

Best if used at ten feet or CLOSER !!
Just depends on how close you can get to the "Pest"
or when your nerves give out if it has no legs !!

I actually killed a running skunk with a model 36 and shot shells. Was a lucky day for me and an unlucky day for the skunk. Must have been a golden bb that struck somewhere vital.

I'm impressed with the skunk kill, must have been a golden BB to the eye socket.
I do have lot of experience with jumbo sized rats , albeit the .45Colt CCI Shotshell is prefered. But yes the distance needs to be limited to single digit feet ( NOT yards).

Three inch Model 36 and CCI shotshells at about 12-15 feet. One shot did the trick, but I shot him again just for good luck.

I hope you kept that skin?! It would make a nice new holster for your snake killer there!

You can shoot them in a .38 Sp +P, just as you can shoot .38 Sp +P in a .357, but nothing less.
BTW, shotshells are cups of little birdshot packed together. Although they have the kinetic energy of a top .38 Sp +P at very close range - against clothed perps, you're going to get very little penetration.

Shoot a used pair of safety glasses with those loads. At 10-15 feet I got a lot of pass thru with a 3" J frame.

I've rolled my own for 40 yrs or so. Drop about 4.5 grains unique in a primed .38 Spec hull, seat a gas check, cup up over the powder, fill the hull to approx 1/8" of the top with #8/9 shot, seat another gas check over the shot, again cup up, use a nice heavy crimp to hold every thing together.
It works on rattlesnakes, copperheads, water moccasins, squirrels, stray dogs and ornery cats. About 10 ft max range.
