BAD AMMO
I ordered 500 rounds of remanufactured 38 special rounds from Freedom Munitions. Today at the range, one of the casings after being ejected from the cylinder was cracked through about half the length of the brass. Would you trust the other 475 rounds to be safe? I wrote to the company and hope to hear from them tomorrow.

Yes I would. Nothing is ever perfect. They use fired brass so there is a chance that one bad one got in.
For example, I have never had a problem with Winchester White Box but plenty of people here have. Today at the range my buddy was shooting their 223 without a problem

Did they say it was once fired brass? With Reman, you have no way of knowing how many times it was fired & reloaded. Are they a reputable company? I know I never heard of them. Wait until you hear from them.
Untill then....I wouldn't shoot any more of it. What are you shooting for a handgun?

Using a 442. From their site...
FREEDOM MUNITIONS inspects all cartridge cases for defects. The Scharch Range Master machines are fully automated and cases are checked for any debris and pressure tested for any splits or cracks. Primers are removed, flash holes are cleared, and primer pockets are reamed to accept new primers.

Split cases in reloaded revolver ammo is a relatively common thing, and is not dangerous. It can happen for a variety of reasons, but is not usually indicative of excess pressure. Work hardening of the brass, sizing to minimum dimensions and being fired in a large chamber are common causes.
As long as the rounds fired normally, with no signs of high pressure or inconsistency, you should be fine using the remaining ammo.

Most of us who reload our fired cases experience cracked cases from
time to time because the brass is usually used over and over until it
does finally crack. There usually is no indication to the shooter that
a case has split when firing unless he is chronographing the shots.
Due to the pressure release the shot will usually show a velocity drop.

FWIW, Freedom munitions here in Lewiston, ID has a good reputation with shooters in this area.
But, reman is reman. Its reloaded in used brass and every so often one's gonna split. Not a big deal.

Reloading for more then 45 years.
Split .38 spl brass is common after many reloads.
Causes no problems at all to the revolver.

My "vintage" 38 spl range brass delivers 1 or 2 split cases every time I go shooting. Simple case of metal fatigue, similar to what happens to you after a long conversation about working on the honey doo list.
Your revolver is not in any danger.

FWIW, I've used Freedom Munitions for quite some time. Had one issue a couple years back with 40S&W's FTF's. Emailed FM (Rudy), they replied, doubling the order, saying they had a bad batch of primers.
Their prompt and honest response/reply made me a loyal customer.
I also use their bullet line "Xtreme Bullets".

Ha metal fatigue. I see what you did there. The honey do list is much more likely to cause a problem with shooting than a split case.

Shoot the remaining rounds. Throw away any cases that split and save the rest. Been doing that for 40 years.

What a reputable company. I was informed they would send me a shipping label and either refund my purchase price, or send out new, never fired replacements.I will take the new ammo and definitely continue purchasing new rounds from them. Thanks for all the great info I received from everyone.

I wish I knew how. They are sending my replacement ammo today right after I called to let them know I dropped off my return at UPS. I thought I would have to wait until they receive it. Try and get action like that at any other ammo company.

I would be annoyed with the QA if finding cases split "before" firing but cases splitting after firing when using reloads is just a fact of life. As a hand loader a split case is telling me that case is no longer useful.
Many of the re-manufacturers buy or take in partial trade cases from public ranges and individual shooters. All brass will eventually split, if it is still in tact when reloaded, there's no way to know if it will split or not when fired. In my experience a case that spits when fired is no danger to the shooter.

The last time I split a case, we both ended up with 12 beers. It's all good.

Remanufactured ammo is not prime factory. Cases split.

They are making much better.....
I gave up on remanufactured ammo many years ago, but I understand Freedom Arms makes good stuff. I don't think a cracked case is a fatal flaw, just a sign that that case has had it. If they crack a lot, you might want to find something else to do with them.

Freedom Munitions was great. When I called to tell them about the cracked brass, they immediately offered my money back or new ammo with no up charge over the reloads. Went to the range today and ammo was perfect. They will be my range ammo supplier.
