Default 125gr .38 special ammo question...

I got a really good deal on 500 rounds of 125gr FMJ flat tip .38 special ammo. They are reloads and are not +P. I don't normally shoot FMJ and don't normally shoot 125gr. Are there any .38/.357 revolvers that you would NOT shoot this ammo through? Thank you for your comments in advance.

There's nothing special or problematic about the 125 gr weight. It will
most likely have a lower point of impact on a target than the standard
158 gr bullet but if it's standard pressure ammo it should be safe in
any 38 spl or 357 mag revolver.

125 grain in .38 load is a non-issue; and if 125 grain ever was an issue, it was hot .357 loads.

I'd be much more concerned about who did the reloading...

It should be just fine. I know regular 130 gr out of my J frame has very mild recoil

Personally, I would not buy someone's reloads and I would especially steer clear of using that ammo in early 38 M&P revolvers with non-heat treated cylinders. Jacketed bullets will genetate higher pressures than lead, but probably the most important reason is that you have no idea of what pressures those reloads will generate, since you did not buy them or load them.

I have shot 125gr Jacket ammo and reload 125gr lead bullets
that only hit 600fps in my J frame snub nose. All have worked
well in my snub and 6" revolvers.

The factory 125gr FMJ are usually lower velocity target loads
and will work well killing paper and tin cans. I see no reason
not to buy the FMJ ammo. Mostly if it is at a good price.

FMJ ammo is all we can shoot in the ranges in these parts.
The ranges are indoors, and its a lead ventilation issue.
All I shoot is 125 gr ammo, loaded by myself.
I would just want to know more about who did the reloading.
If its commercial, it should be OK.
Our range reloads under their own label. Its the only ammo that can be used with their rental guns.

Best,
Rick

Sorry, they are commercially reloaded. From Northern Hills Precision. Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

Those should be some nice, low recoil plinkers, and leave you with some nice shiney brass too!
