It goes bang when you pull the trigger and puts holes in the proper place in the target. It wouldn't be my first choice for self defense, but I'd choose it over rocks every time.

My 3913 likes it. I've seen tests online that show slightly less expansion and about the same penetration as the $1.25 per each rounds. I think it's an excellent value and because I know its accurate and reliable; I use it for carry.

The best Conceal Carry cartridge is the one you have in your gun at the right time you need it.

The bulk 100 round package with the 115gr UMC #B box.....
works well out of the short barrels and passes plain gel and 4G test. The price is also a selling point, if you can find them.

The 124gr GS #D box ...... is another round that will work in short barrels with its velocity and passes the gel test.

The "New" 115gr JHP in the green and yellow #6 box...........
did not do well in test and had problems mushrooming and all around bullet problems.
It might do better in 4" or longer barrels but not designed for the short barrel.

If you put a round threw 4 water jugs or wet newspaper......
you should see a nice mushroom after the test.

One of the lower priced ammo that works.
Have fun.

If you want target ammo, use FMJ. If you want ammo to bet you or someone elses life on, use Federal HST 124gr +P or Winchcester Ranger T 124 gr +P.

The cheap wallymart bulk hollow point ammo is substandard to the premium stuff available on the market.. thats why its being sold in bulk for chep!!!!

I found it very reliable and quite accurate in a CZ-75B.

I got it in a 100 pack at Wal-Mart.

Jimmy,

I've been buying it as my range ammo for most of this year. It has been just at $1 per 100 more expensive than the Federal red box, so I can leave mags loaded with it, and shoot them at the range without breaking the bank. And one range requires JHP (backstop issue), so I'm set for that as well.

No technical details from me, but I feel, from shooting alternate mags, that they are likely closer to +P than not. They group better and a touch higher than the Remington 115 FMJ or the Winchester 115 FMJ.

No jams or failures at all (ZERO) in well over 1k rounds fired in my Shield 9, VP9, and SA EMP 9.

So whenever I see them at my WM, I grab them without hesitation.

Yes, my Shield carry mag is Federal HS 124 JHP, but using the UMC all the mags preloaded for range day could be SD if I needed them.

Did I say I have no complaints, except that supply is completely unpredictable?

The +p version is better, obviously. I remember back in about '99 I had about 1k rds. of the long discontinued Rem. 115 gr. +p+ JHP that the Secret Service used at one time. Like a dummy, I shot every last one of them. They were hot and supremely accurate. Over 1,300 fps.

There are several "economical" 9mm ammo from late 80 or early 90's that are still around and still perform well. Remington 115gr JHP is one of them and so is the Federal 115gr JHP a.k.a. 9BP and Winchester Whitebox 147gr JHP. From this group I like the Federal 9mm 9BP the best and keep a good supply of it in stock because it is the only 9mm JHP ammo that will feed in anything. Older semiauto pistols that were never designed around JHP bullet will sometimes not feed JHP bullets but I've found 9BP to feed in anything...including my dad's 1967 Browning Hi-Power and his 1973 S&W model 39.

I only fault I have found with the Rem-UMC 115 JHP's (both standard and +P) is that they are "flashy". Also, my 3914 tends to shoot low with anything other than 147's or 158's.

Back in the days of the 115 grain JHP being the top dog in 9mm effectiveness, the Remington load was a good performer, even better when driven at +P velocity. I found it to be an accurate load and even bought thousands of the bullets for reloading. These days, I think there are better loads, but it's still a solid performer.

People tend to think that the design of the bullet is critical to effectiveness in a self-defense round. People are wrong. The differences between the Remington load and the hyper-expensive "premium" loads is so small as to be almost indefinable -- and for that matter, the difference between hollowpoint loads and FMJ loads isn't a whole lot bigger.

Placement will always trump bullet design. While I will take the small edge given by a hollowpoint, I don't sweat too much over which hollowpoint to choose.

I shot a lot of it out of my old Hi Power for years. I generally shoot HST or Gold Dots these days (50 round boxes from mailorder make them much more affordable than the 20 round retail boxes) but I wouldn't feel badly armed with the Remingtons.
