Is Tulammo 9mm liked by many or stay away from it due to the steel case?
Smith and Wesson says only use steel cased SAAMI spec ammo. Tula is CIP specs.

AFAIK you should always try to abide by the manual of your firearms. That being said, CIP spec isn't dangerous and I've never heard of any damage done to a gun by shooting eurofodder rated CIP vs SAAMI.

Steel casings act a little differently during the course of internal ballistics tho, so maybe, if your looking for some cheapo range fodder, you might want to try something brass cased, and CIP spec? Is there anything against brass cased CIP spec ammo in your manual?

Sellier and Bellot, PRVI Partisan, and PMC all make good offerings with brass cases at CIP spec (I believe), and all are economically priced.

Anyway, most of the stuff coming from russia these days is that grey polycoat stuff. Never again. I've never had ammo rust on me before in its factory box in my safe. I've also never had a squib before. IMHO that polycoat is just junk.

I used to love the russian ammo for its price range and the green lacquer coat would have kept those steel cases clean thru the apocalypse. If you kept your chamber clean, it was never a problem.

Now, I generally steer clear of most ammo from russia.

I shoot steel case as range ammo almost exclusively in just about all my guns. I can't remember the last time I had a failure. The only problem I have with the 45acp ammo is that for some reason the Sig P220 mags will only load 4 rounds. It still shoots fine just doesn't loaf more than 4.

Lacquer case went away cause people complained about it. I too preferred the lacquer but it is what it is

I have a couple of pistols that have stepped chambers, which explicitly say that steel / aluminum may void the warranty.

Although I am tempted by the price some days, I want any ammo I have to work in any firearm I have, so I stay with brass.

I use the Russian steel cased stuff in my AK and AR. I also have some "spam cans" of it set away for long storage. It works perfectly in my long guns. After all, the AK was designed for it. That said, I tend to steer away from it in my handguns. Although it works well, I can get brass for almost the same price these days.

Ill use steel in my AK but nothing else.

I've never had any issues with steel case, and over the last 4 plus years of getting back to the range. I have shot (literally) probably 5 - 6k of steel cased 9mm ammo.

Never mind the case.
Pull a bullet and see if it reacts to a magnet.
If it does, section the bullet to see if it has a steel core.
If no steel core, then the jacket is, according to Tula, Monarch and others, a bi-metal alloy, meaning it contains iron.
I will not shoot a bi-metal jacket containing iron through any of my guns again.

I found this out shooting at an indoor range.
I shot a box of WW white box and no issues.
Then a few rounds of Tula 9mm.
When the round hit the steel floor or the steel walls of the indoor range, sparks flew, as in steel on steel.

Steel case ammo works fine in every Smith and Wesson HANDGUN I've ever used it in.

Until Smith and Wesson offers an AK-47, I encourage all to avoid steel-case rifle ammo in Smith and Wesson rifles.
