I maybe didn't see it right but I could swear I saw CCI .22LR on the shelf at my LGS for 9.99 a box of 50.

Seems a little high. I did some Internet searching and I do see prices up there but I also see some pretty cheap. 3.00 for 50.

So, where's the middle for clean trouble semi-auto shooting.

I don't want junk that gums up the works and fails to feed and eject but I don't need to shoot gold plated either.

Anybody got a good recommendation to help an old guy save a little money?

CCI comes in several varieties, and pricing varies in my area.
CCI mini-mag runs from $7 - $11 per 100 round box when you can find it.

$9 for a box of 50 CCI would only make sense for the match grade rounds ("Green Tag").

No such thing as clean 22lr ammo - it all burns dirty dirty.
Armscor High Velocity works great through all my rifles and pistols, but it still burns dirty.

I've seen it from $5.99 to about $6.75 WHEN you can find it at Walmart or Academy.

Beats the $22 for 50 I saw last February a gun shop was peddling for a box of Federal hollowpoints. Nothing fancy mind you, just Federal LR hollowpoints. It's not uncommon to still see .22 LR ammo for $12-$13 for 50 here.

I think $7.50 to $10 per 100 is the new "normal" for 22 LR ammo.

I use CCI Standard Velocity for all my suppressed shooting and general plinking in all my .22s. Accurate, reliable ingnition, and cycles perfectly in all my .22 autoloaders, handguns and long guns.

Palmetto State Armory has had it in stock for months at $45 brick. They used to have no limit per order but I see now its limited to 10 bricks, 5,000rds per order. It's just a click away...

I've still got 40,000 rds of Federal bulk that I've had since things went to hell haven't shot not one single round of 22 in what 3 -4 years now, it's cheaper to shoot and reload for my .223 then it is to buy 22 ammo I'll just hang on to it for a while longer.

CCI Mini Mag sort of sets my baseline for comparison. Most recent I've seen locally was about $9.50 for a box of 100. Still not back where it was before the big panic began, but at least it's becoming available and semi-reasonably priced.

That stuff gets old. Lead oxidizes and powder can change chemically . Mostly have had old stuff spit out hot carbon particles occasionally.

I just bought some MiniMags here in Denver for $8.00/100. I guess that's the new normal.

The CCI standard velocity works fine in my .22 Compact, will NOT cycle my Sig 1911-22, but recently has been exactly the same price as the Mini-mags, so "too expensive" in comparison.

The best all-round has been the (CCI) Blazer .22 LRN. It works in all my pistols, has been $2.49-$2.79 / 50. Actually cheaper than branded CCI SV the last few weeks. You'll need to clean every 250-300 rounds fired.

Naw I vacuum sealed my stash and keep it in a cool place, last gun show I went to a vendor wanted $75.00 for a brick of Federal standard vol. 22LR when I told him how many I had he asked me if I was interested in selling any of them I told him sure for a $100.00 a brick He told me I was crazy I told him not as crazy as he was if he thought I'd pay $75.00 for his especially when I paid I think $8.90 a brick from Walmart before the world went crazy.

I'd like to point out that Powder Valley has new H335 at a price that will run about $180 shipped for 8lbs. It makes for cheap shooting, but you have a load that will generate about 3000 fps, a bit different that a .22LR round used for plinking.

You can use Trail Boss with bulk pulled 55gr bullets in a .223 and pay less per round than you currently would for .22LR. The velocities will be about the same as your .22LR. The problem here is you have to have a .223 rifle.

I've previously been a casual .22 shooter but recently became more active and I see the big difference in cost is lead vs copper wash.

I've been reading the pros and cons on the web, what are the feelings here? It looks to be pretty evenly split, it doesn't matter, shoot the lead or shoot copper wash only, it's cleaner.

I don't know.

CCI mini mags have set the standard for me..Academy Sports, when they have it, is $7.99 per 100 rds..Scheels Sporting is getting $9.99 for the same ammo..
I did find some CCI Stingers at Academy, box of 50 for $5.99..A hot little round, they are fast, accurate and function extremely well in my semi auto pistols..Mini mags work very well in my semi auto's as well...
Remington Golden bulk ammo works very well, but I haven't bought any recently, so no pricing on it..Same for Federal bulk..
Now a day's, you just have to buy what is available for plinking..

Scott the bullets I get from Everglades are new not pulled, I didn't intend to wind up with so many 22lrs it just happened when ever I went to Walmart I'd buy 2-3 bricks of 22s here in AZ it's too damn hot in the Summer to shoot but I'd still buy them had more but then the world went crazy and I stopped shooting them, if SHTF I've got a few buddies I'd share them with they know I got them.

Never had a problem with 22LR here. Occasionally 380 gets scarce, but it is not one of my calibers, Plenty of 22LR in the ammo safe.

So I was at the LGS the other day and asked for a big box of .22LR and he handed me Federal AutoMatch Target Ammunition 22 Long Rifle 40 Grain Lead Round Nose Box of 325. I haven't fired any yet but I can't find too much wrong with it in searching for reviews. Anybody got good or bad things to say about it? Intended use is 10/22 and PPK/S.

I bought a 325 rd box of this stuff,,,,My Walther P22 didn't like it, but my Ruger MKII ate it right up...I'll probably pass on it if I see it again...

Federal AutoMatch has gone down in quality the last couple of years. I was using it oftenin 2013, and burned through what remained in 2014. When I finally saw some again this spring, I jumped on it, but it is different. It is much harder to extract, lots of failures, and sometimes has to be punched out with a cleaning rod. If I can unload what I have, I will. No more to be purchased.
