Default Collectable ammo questions?

I just picked these up recently. I know they are collectable, but can anyone give me the vintage and an approximate value? Boxes and ammo are in excellent plus shape!

Recently sold 4 of Peters Police Match, boxes only for $15@. Boxes were same as you have pictured, but 38 Spec. Shot the
ammo up couple years ago, worked as new. Have no idea what
they are paying for full boxes.

Top box could be a range from about '53/'54 until very early 60s based upon the Olin Mathieson callout on back.
The second box, I have never pinned down. I know it was advertised in some mags in the mid 40s. Whether it originated before WWII or not is unknown to me.

From what I have experienced, when you go to sell vintage ammo everyone tells you it's not worth much. When you go to buy it they tell you how rare and valuable it is.

Years ago I started collecting vintage ammo (most are pristine and full boxes) and have sort of stopped because I find myself saving tons of ammo I haven't used, yet it's not going to bring in any big payday should I decide to sell it. I do enjoy displaying and showing them but have relegated myself now to only collect more if it falls in my lap. The seeking it out days are over for me.

I will be using my Dads 50 years old 12 gauge #6 Shells for Pheasant Hunting in a few weeks as I have for the last 4 years since his death. THAT gives me more pleasure than just looking at it on a shelf. Some are still the paper hull variety.

Before the recent "ammo crunch," I would find older boxes of ammo like this at shows on the tables of private sellers. There are folks who haunt garage sales and come up with odds-and-ends boxes of ammo they buy for a few bucks, and sell for a few bucks more. Bless their hearts. Don't see as much of this anymore since the crunch.

What is it worth? It's worth shooting! Enjoy it.

The Police Match box has the Bridgeport address so would be post WWII I believe. I think it was still in use in the mid 50's. The Western box is a 50's era box as well. I have found that centerfire boxes like these can be hard to sell. Unlike 22 boxes there seem to be few real collectors of centerfire boxes and there seem to be a good number of boxes from this era out there.

My experience has been that really nice, full boxes will bring a slight premium over new ammo of the same type. Worn, tattered and partial boxes will usually sell for shooting value unless they are a hard to find caliber. The problem is finding a buyer, even at collector shows many things don't move well. The guys who sell a lot seem to primarily sell on the internet.

I collect myself and enjoy the artwork and style of the old boxes. I also trade around and sell a bit to support my habit. They are nice bits of history.

Default well you gents are on top of it !

got some older stuff myself . some 22's that were bought at a now defunct 3-d store bout 25 years ago come in a silver box believe they are expediter's . some other new in the box stuff in 22 , remington yellow jacket . dont know what t hey are worth , but probably will not part with it . have s few lubaloy 38's , may be winchester brand AND 4-5 yrs. at a gun show , acquired some super vel's in either 9mm or 45 acp , cant remember which . believe i gave $30-$35 for the box of 50 . significant because super vel was the four runner of all modern hollow point defense ammo .... and the company was right here in indiana !
and i have something i believe to be darn rare. 9mm bat bullets ( blitz action trauma ) made by dymit noble (sp) in germany . 2 boxes of 50 each , if i am not mistaken , these are nearly extinct !
i will hang on to this ammo .... $$ arent always the final valuable .
