Default Anyone tried Barnes Tac-XPD 140 Grain .40 in a Shield?

I'm just a self proclaimed ammo geek and looking to start a discussion here. I will preface the post with the fact that I typically like smaller and faster projectiles over bigger and slower. Both get the job done. To each their own...

Any thoughts on Barnes Tac-XPD defensive ammo by anyone who has tried it? I already run the 115 grain +P in my CM9 and really like the lower recoil for a +P defensive round and the all copper bullet design. Planning on trying the 140 grain version in my .40 Shield and was curious if anyone on here had tried it. Many reviews online for the 9mm version but not as many for the .40 and none for how it performs in the Shield.

The Barnes Tac-XPD is way easier to find locally than the Corbon DPX which use the same Barnes bullet but with 100-200 more FPS velocity typically.

I also have heard that about their .380 load. .380 is a finiky caliber when you start looking at defensive ammo. You can have penetration or expansion just not both typically. I have a .380 also but carry Hornady Custom XTP in it. Thanks for the reply.

.380 itself is disappointing lol.

Been there done that, its why my secondary is a .38 snub.

I don't have the ability to test the ammo for anything other then shooting it into milk jugs, but it runs well in my Rami which is a short barrel gun like the Shield is.

Here's a youtube vid of the 9mm 115gr version from G26:

I figure that at 25gr heavier the .40 load from a short barrel isn't going to be too bad.

I like it especially for my Rami, because it is running less velocity and is on the lower end of weight for .40, and it is noticeably faster on follow up shots.

That being said- I still prefer the heavier projectiles and in the extended MegGar mags I have for my CZ (14 rounders) I stoke it with 165gr or more.
But when you've got a really small gun with an abbreviated grip as in the 8 round mags that came with the Rami (even with the pinkie extensions lol), it doesn't hurt to tame the snap of the .40.

I think this is a very good load for short barrel .40's.

YMMV.

Thank you sir for the info! I went ahead and picked some up to try out for my .40. I'll post back later after I get a chance to test it out.
