Default 268 offerings of 357 Sig!

(Updated...again!)If you are interested in the 357 Sig and want to try some new loads.... or just wonder what is available, a fellow over at GT has just acquired his 268th offering in 357 Sig. Remanned ammo, premium ammo, frangible ammo, copper only bullets, what might be called exotic...they are all on the list. Thread has lots of links.
And here is the link to that thread:

And for every one .357Sig load there's at least 5+ 9mm loads.

I, too like my 357 Sig (SP2022). Haters be damned.
Like it so much in fact that I just ordered another (M&P Compact) chambered for it.
As a handloader, everything's an option for me.
Next up I'm planning to work with heavy (147 grain) loads.
If you haven't seen it, Summit Gunbroker in MO has some great deals on them now.

It's a fine round. Just like the 9mm, .40, .45,... and .357. They do as they are supposed to so long as you do your part.

Sort of surprising given that the .357 Sig seems to have declined in popularity. However, If I had some pistol chambered in .40 S&W, I'd find a .357 Sig barrel for it just for the versatility factor. I really like pistols which can be easily converted to different cartridges. And apparently so does Uncle Sam's military. I have a long story about that which I won't go into here.

The .357 Sig is a fine round for a variety of reasons. I think it more than satisfies the original intent of the cartridge. If one doesn't care for it or finds another self defense round they prefer good for them. I like it and use it as my daily carry. Plenty of ammunition and variations available for it.

Default Appreciate the info....

Love my revolvers, but also own two Glocks... G32 and G33...both are .357 Sig...
However, also have 9mm and .40 S&W conversion barrels for both...
“IF” there’s another ammo shortage, I plan to reload all three calibers...
Couldn’t hurt to plan ahead...

That is cute, but he might also like being a 356TSW or a 9x23 Winchester

I am a huge fan of the 357SIG cartridge. Not too long ago I was burning through almost 6,000 rounds a year.

I think it is a great cartridge for any Highway Patrol or State Police agency. It has enough power to penetrate a windshield and still incapacitate a felon.

I was first exposed to the 357SIG back in the early 1990s when I was working Dallas County. The Texas DPS was evaluating it for it's next duty round. The 357SIG was successful in that evaluation.

The SIG P229 and P239 are great platforms for that cartridge.

The one with the 405 number on it is my Texas DPS P239

I do use lots of factory ammunition and I appreciate this reference, However I also hand load plenty of what I shoot. Lightweight projectiles really scream out of these firearms. They shoot VERY flat and group well. I have a 90 grain JHP that leaves my SIG P229 Sport at just over 1700FPS. I would never carry such a round, but it is fun to shoot

I have a Sig P226 in .40 S&W. Someone on this forum had a factory .357 Sig barrel for sale that I bought. It gets some attention at the range when I swap the barrels back and forth and shoot a few groups with each.

Thanks flamethrower

Those 4 are just the tip of the iceberg.

I guess since this is the Smith and Wesson Forum, I should have posted S&Ws

S&W's 1st entry into 357SIG was the 357SIGMA

It is with their next pistol that S&W shines. The M&P is offered in both a fullsize and a compact.

The MP357c compact pistol is nice since it can take the larger mags as a reload. It is great when your duty side arm and your ankle gun can use the same magazines. I keep a few mags with the after market X-Grip spacer in place just for comfort during range sessions

While it never would have been brought to market at the time since the 357SIG was competing against the 40S&W cartridge for the LEO marketshare, I do love the one Performance Center Shorty 357 that was built

One reason that I go through so much ammunition is the Bad Boy of 357SIG, my MP5

This can put 30 rounds of 357SIG ammunition on target in 2 seconds This has had LOTS of the Speer 357SIG Frangible ammunition put through it on the various ranges over the years

Sorry about the video, I had not realized someone moved my camera

Bottom line?
This is a cartridge that will be with us forever, just like the 45LC and 38 Special have already been around for more than 100 years

So keep throwing those tips on where to locate affordable ammunition

I have used 357Sig ammo almost since it first became available. I used it in issued Sig P229s and my own P239, a gun I still have.

Since then, the round has continued to evolve and I believe current offerings from quality manufacturers keep it a top performer.

I have since bought my own S&W M&P357Sig, one of three, and my most recent purchase, a Sig P320C/357Sig. I also have a pair of Sig 1911 Emperor Scorpion Carry pistols in 357Sig. Yeah, I'm addicted.

While gainfully employed I routinely fired about 500 rounds of it a month for proficiency, and used my P229 in IDPA to good effect.

I submit there are two inviolate rules for the round.
1: Buy ONLY from manufacturers with an established record of making the round. Especially in 1911-style guns, but in anything with a strong recoil spring such as the Sig P320C, just chambering a round can push the bullet back into the shell. I learned to be able to tell by sound and feel if that was happening. In this same rule, I make sure I never manually chamber the same round twice. Always rotate. I'm told that this is because there is very little case neck grasping the bullet.

I have fired tens of thousands of rounds in various calibers made by Blackedoutarmsllc in WI and all have been excellent except for the 357Sig. I had many which experienced push back of the bullet. I spoke with them at length and they said that this a problem in manufacturing that round. All of their other calibers have been good or even spectacular.

I tried reloading but had too many problems crushing the necks. I buy all my ammo, now.

2: Test it in the gun(s) you will carry. That can be expensive with premium ammo, but you must do it. Some ammo that chambers fine in my S&W M&P suffers setback when chambering in the Sig P320C, and the 1911-pattern guns are the most sensitive.

I have never had a problem with any brand of 357Sig in my P239. That gun is almost identical in size to the P320C, so it has a stout recoil spring.

Heavier bullet weights are now available, and shooting them in longer barrels, say 5-inches, can produce impressive results. My Sig P226 X-FIVE All Around routinely throws them at 1400fps+. Other users of this forum have reported velocities in excess of 1500.

I expect I'll use the round for as long as I can lift the guns that shoot it.

Just not the same. Almost every 357 Sig round is 500 or more ft/lbs. Aside from a few over pressure boutique loads, 9mm pushes around 350. Pretty easy to see the differences looking at the Lucky Gunner Labs site.

Who even makes firearms chambered in .357 SIG anymore besides SIGsauer?

Honestly, it seems like S&W completely dropped the chambering from the M&P line, and I never see any guns chambered in it elsewhere anymore.

Heck, why didn't this cartridge ever really take off? You'd think that having the equivalent of a 124gr .357 Magnum out of a 9mm Luger-sized pistol would be a huge selling point, especially considering that the cartridge didn't even get tied up in the FBI's misleading comments about 9mm Luger being equal to .40/.45, so even the gullible folks who immediately took that statement at face value and now go around believing that a Standard Pressure 115gr 9mm load is equal to a 180gr .40 S&W or 230gr .45 ACP would likely still think that .357 SIG is a more powerful/effective cartridge.
